LAMP---just got back from interviewing all the Jets

Recommended Posts

As a lot of you may or may not know, I work in television news and occasionally, I get afforded a pretty cool opportunity to do some interesting things. Today was one of those days as I went to Hofstra University on Long Island to interview the Jets rookies.

I've never been in a professional teams locker room and to see these guys in their natural environment was a great experience. They were all genuinely enthusiastic with it being the first day of rookie mini-camp. Gholston is going to be wearing #56 and projects as being a pass rushing specialist ala Shawn Merriman, and also lining up as a DE. This is kinda strange considering they just signed Calvin Pace to a pretty big contract.

Erik Ainge is also pretty tall. I didn't realize that he was as tall as he was.

We weren't able to film any of the practice or walk through becasue Mangina is notorious for not allowing the media a lot of time to film (85 minutes total for the entire weekend) the new guys.

They fed us pretty well too...sandwiches, salads, asparagus, cookies...a lot more than any other media event I've ever covered before.

Also...I got to see the Vince Lombardi trophy encased in the entrance of the practice facility. I thought it was pretty strange to be there. It was the first time I have ever seen the trophy in person.
