***PetrinoInAlbany*** Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 I would add (with a personal recommendation!) ... Smitty's Pit ... Albany, NY McGeary's Irish Pub ... Albany, NY The Bayou Cafe ... Albany, NY Dick's Last Chance ... Myrtle Beach, SC Harry's Tavern ... Florence, Italy Each must be experienced to be appreciated!
gmac17 Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 Pete - I would have bet $1,000 that you would come back with the exact post that you did. but seriously, what a horrible list. The ghost bar in vegas??? Sunset bar and grill in Boston? the entire list loses all respect for me just because of those. and only 2 bars in NY? ugh.
KD in CA Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 Dick's Last Chance ... Myrtle Beach, SC That place is a hoot! I just scanned the list, but didn't see McSorley's in NYC. Clearly that belongs on any beer list.
GG Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 the entire list loses all respect for me just because of those. and only 2 bars in NY? ugh. Because McSorley's is the only bar worth mentioning to the tourist set

Pete Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 Pete - I would have bet $1,000 that you would come back with the exact post that you did. but seriously, what a horrible list. The ghost bar in vegas??? Sunset bar and grill in Boston? the entire list loses all respect for me just because of those. and only 2 bars in NY? ugh. Yeah that list is very subjective and hardly worthy. You could make a list of 1250 best places to have a beer in NYC! There are some great party spots not on there. Where is Spain on the list? San Sebastian and Barcelona are pub crawlers heavens! Berlin not represented? Poland? Most of Asia is neglected. Most of South America. Oh well- it is a fun list nonetheless. Try and touch them all! And as far as your bet- I live to travel and I love beer! I am quite comfortable in pubs- so that is where I spend a lot of time when I travel

Pete Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 If you ever get up to Albany, Mahar's is definately worth it. And yes, McSorley's belongs on that list. thanks for the recommendation! The best advice where to go is from locals. I will make it a point to get a beer at Mahar's next time I am in Albany. And McSorley's is awesome! No matter what time of day or night- it is a good time. Oldest bar in NYC. My cousin got married at the Ukrainian Cathedral right across the street. You better believe we spent a lot of time pre gaming acoss the street at McSorley's!

Neither continent known for beer, granted, but there are some sweet spots in both. I imagine that a lot of this list was based on beer selection. Hopleaf in Chicago and Sunset in Boston are two places with great beer lists but not the most interesting location or drinking/dining experience.

Chilly Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 WTF Flying Saucer at 36, but Ginger Man in at 109? Those two should be flipped. Ginger Man >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Flying Saucer. I go ot the Ginger Man at least once a week, love that place.
