Andrew in CA Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 I just learned to read, so I would like some books you have read that I should get..Thanks Start with Dr. Seuss- "Green Eggs and Ham" is a classic. You can then move up to the Berenstein Bears anthology, and if you feel like a real challenge, head to the Goosebumps series. Beware, though- you're in for a scare! Then Dostoevsky.
stuckincincy Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 I just learned to read, so I would like some books you have read that I should get..Thanks 1. Ben Franklin's autobiography. 2. The Journal of John Woolman. 3. The Meditations of Marcus Aurelius. That's enough for now.
MattyT Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 Any post by Pyrite Gal....but I recommend the Cliff Notes.

Cugalabanza Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 I'm becoming more and more convinced that Richard Russo is one of the best American authors of our time. I'd read his stuff--maybe start with Empire Falls. I'll have to check that out. My brother has been saying the same thing to me.
tennesseeboy Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 <------ Geez eryn...I ddidn't know you were such a literature buff!
dib Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 My mom used to read the Excorcist to me before bedtime.
Cugalabanza Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 If you like short stories, the Vonnegut collection Welcome To The Monkey House, already mentioned above, is great. Also, if you like Vonnegut, you should check out George Saunders. Pastoralia and In Persuasion Nation are both excellent collections. A couple more favorites... Where I'm Calling From by Raymond Carver (compiles all his best stories) When The Nines Roll Over by David Benioff (a really great recent collection)
VABills Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 http://www.harpercollins.com/books/9780060...__Me/index.aspx Marly and Me. Not the best written book I've ever read, but a good book.
Chilly Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 I would recommend anything by Thomas Aquinas. Only if you are interested in old, stale political philosophy. I'd recommend Thus Spoke Zarathustra over that.
