Pete Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 I usually avoid reality shows but Carrier is a great one! It is all about life on an aircraft carrier and tells the story of many soldiers. Check it out!

kegtapr Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 I've been waiting for this show for a month. Good stuff. I like how they go beyond the normal "this is an aircraft carrier and this is what we do" into more of the personal things each position entails.
WWVaBeach Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 and Marines. dib...you're absolutely right. There is a MARDET on a carrier. My bad!
Pete Posted April 28, 2008 Author Posted April 28, 2008 Um...they're sailors. what do you call a fighter pilot?
Wacka Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 Loved some of the pilot's call signs: FUNGUS- F U New Guy U Suck DAHIGI- Don't Ask How I Got It
WWVaBeach Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 what do you call a fighter pilot? They're also considered sailors. Though you have to take that statement with a grain of salt. Seriously though if they make a career of it some of those Naval Aviators become Commanding Officers of amphibious ships and if they're lucky carriers.

Actually, they refer to themselves as Naval Aviators, not pilots. The rationale is that anyone can land on a runway, only Naval Aviators can land on a Carrier.

Marv's Neighbor Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 I understand that the next generation carriers will have mostly remotely piloted planes. The Navy is having problems with recovery and being able to quickly move them around the decks without damage/crew injury.
VABills Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 dib...you're absolutely right. There is a MARDET on a carrier. My bad! Don't ever forget it again.
WWVaBeach Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 Don't ever forget it again. Deal! Signed, CPO (Ret)
Pete Posted May 1, 2008 Author Posted May 1, 2008 So is anyone else watching Carrier? What do you think? I love it! It is very well done and it shows many aspects of being on the carrier 6 month's at a time- good or bad. I think the show really shows the beauty of America. It shows we are a melting pot of all walks of life, we have the freedom to speak our minds- even if it conflicts with policy, how superfluous Americans (regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation, or social class, etc) intermingle and work as a team. It shows how we are not perfect and we still have a way to go as a society. It shows there is still some racism and ignorance, but we are trying to overcome that. It makes me even more proud of those that serve and care about those that lay it out for America and all that we stand for. Tremendous series- I hope some of y'all are watching too. Thank you to everyone that serves our country!
molson_golden2002 Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 Speaking of Aircraft Carriers, today is the anniversary of the Battle of Coral Sea http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Coral_Sea First time surface fleets battle at sea fought and did not come into shooting range of each other. Aircraft did all the attacking.
