Sen. John Blutarsky Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 I thought the Giants showed the world how to beat the Pats... and to think the Giants didn't put a single DB on the field all night. They didn't have to. You see, their pressure was just THAT good. They even told 2007 1st round pick Aaron Ross, 2007 7th round pick Michael Johnson and 2005 2nd round pick Corey Webster to stay home...just to prove the point.

Man that Giants secondary was pummeling every Pat they came across. I loved how their secondary played! They can hit!
AKC Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 We have a pretty sick secondary. There is gonna be intense competition for roster spots and playing time. I am wondering if any of the CB's are gonna move to S. Our D is gonna be pretty nasty this year! With the caveat that if the past 2 seasons worth of injury issues continue to hinder Marcus Stroud's contribution, we'll be even softer against the run than we were last year and we'll be awful as defense and a team. The Jag D required he play a higher % of downs than he will with us, and hopefully that in and of itself helps him to get back towards his play in 2004, his last good season. We did have one of the worst rosters of CBs in the league last year, and help at the top is going to help other areas of the D- giving our lines time to pressure the QB will go a long way in helping the pass D improve on third downs. Our run D on first and second though is still substantially dependent on the health of one player.

Even if Stroud gets put on IR for the year, I still feel the Bills will be tougher against the run than was the case last year. Key additions to the run defense include Spencer Johnson, Mitchell, and the return of Poz. The defense didn't lose any starting-quality players; or even quality backups (other than the Hargrove suspension). At least on paper, the Bills have improved their ability to stop the run and the pass, even without Marcus Stroud.
Búfalo Blanco Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 Maybe, or that could have been a fluke of a game. A one hit wonder, if you can excuse the pun. Buffalo had a great pass rush in the early 90s when we played the pass happy Cowboys, but it didn't really do much to help us win those games. If your offense doesn't show up, and the Patsies didn't this past year, you lose the game. After 18 wins, it was bound to happen. Don't forget that the Giants had played New England in a close game about four weeks before the Super Bowl. They could have beaten them then, and if you watch that game, it wasn't NY's pass rush that kept it close. A fluke??? Did you not see their playoff games against GB and Dallas... The likes of Favre, Romo, nor Brady could get time to throw against that pass rush... They pressured all of them.... and the teams had no answer for it... A one hit wonder? Perhaps you should go back and watch some of the Giants games... They are a better team then you think...

Neither is winning every road game in a season
Pyrite Gal Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 Yeah, but now he will lay awake at night fretting over Reggie "First Round" Corner. There's no need to fret too much if the Bills' plans work out as we want and with penetration and pressure from Stroud/McCargo/Johnson/Williams and contain and pressure from Schobel/Kelsay/Denny/Ellis Brady is at least under tremendous pressure if not sitting on his butt. Just as the leading sack team in the NFL pressured Brady into his only losing game of the season, so too is the pass rush going to be the key to Bills taking on Brady and the Pats this year. Its a team game so the contribution of other units is going to be essential to improving the Bills play from the addition of the additional pressure of additions like Mitchell to the play of the secondary. However, the story will begin (and it is to be hoped not end since if the pass rush is not there we will see Brady produce the same numbers in 08 against the Bills as he produced in 07.
