well it does not say much about what will be available for tasting...

in relation to our previous thread on wine, I saw a great study the other day about how the price of a wine has no influence as to the enjoyment by the drinker when done blind. It said that only trained wine experts enjoyed expensive wines more, and even then the difference was barely significant.

Oliver you stuck up grenouille.....it's free booze!

Whine Whore!

Err, I mean Wine. :D

Actually, I have to admit to having wine tastings as the bar manager, not having much of a clue of what I was supposed to be tasting. The cuter sales reps did well though...

Hell my GM and I were at one wine tasting for 4 hours, got loaded and ate a bunch of food. I think we purchased a whole case of wine for resell (no hot chicks for sales reps). Another time we purchased 12 cases of wine on a 30 minute presentation with only a few sips (hot chick).

Will they have plenty of flat screens set up around their establishment to watch the NFL draft?

I remember seeing it on ABC news one morning....

Here's an article

And here's the paper the people giving the study wrote.

i prefer to pay for good stuff than to have free sox juice!

You're preaching to the choir on that. But sometimes you have to try something new and if the something new is free I'm all for it.

Wow, I figured this thread would be like the bat signal for Mead....16 posts and no sign of him? He must be drinking good wine

I agree. I had some California Cabernet Franc a few days ago that was awesome! Never tried it before and it was free! The guys at the winery knew it was my birthday.

From the abstract:

Individuals who are unaware of the price do not derive more enjoyment

from more expensive wine. In a sample of more than 6,000 blind tastings,

we found that the correlation between price and overall rating is small and

negative, suggesting that individuals on average enjoy more expensive

wines slightly less.

Who was doing the tasting and what was their familiarity with wine? Also what was the price differential on the wine?

not sure - read the paper in the link above, it was a pretty thorough and statistical analysis. I'm just about positive they didn't pick strangers off the street, ie the people were wine drinkers of some sort.

People who had formal training in wine were the only ones who preferred more expensive wines, but the difference was minimal.

the range in prices was $2 to $150.
