Steely Dan Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Though his main job upon joining the Bills 10 years ago was to drum up new business and new fans, Russ Brandon also made time to learn about the personnel side of football. The St. John Fisher College graduate would sit in on film sessions with coaches and scouts, and constantly pick the brains of general managers John Butler, Tom Donahoe and Marv Levy. One of Brandon's favorite times of the year would be draft weekend, and although he wasn't involved in the decision-making process, he paid rapt attention. The former assistant general manager of the Rochester Red Wings marveled at how prospective picks would be debated in the "war room," and how a consensus would be reached among owner Ralph Wilson, Bills coaches, scouts and personnel directors. Linkage Cool, didn't know about his personnel experience.
