Captain Hindsight Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 I dont know more then anyone else....but maybe the bills mgt realizes that our DT's were the problem with our pass rush? They did address that in a big way..... Wow we might be on to something.... Triplett and Tim anderson couldnt cut it? Really? But since Kelsey/Denny and Shobel combined for 26+ sacks to years ago and our entire defence 40 they really are backups

Pirate Angel Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Rome wasnt built in a day- If a top rated De likr Vernon gohlston or jake long fall to us Im sure we will take him, my guess is we take the highest Defensive player available, hopefully someone will fall through the cracks and be sitting in our laps, than take a WR with the 2nd round pick or trade back into the 1st round and take one, then maybe move up later and snag a TE
Captain Hindsight Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Remember that Chris Kelsay is overpaid, even though Antwan Odom put up the same numbers as kelsay and received the same contract. Damn thats right.... we should trade that waste of space Kelsey for a 5th rounder!
MartyBall4Buffalo Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 As if you would know anything about this? None of us do... so save the stuff about Kelsay and Denney being back ups. If the front office deems that we need a DE upgrade, even after all we have done with DT, then they will get one. lol that's right let's just never post on message boards because "we don't know". Do I work for an nfl team no. Do I feel I have a good grasp on defensive concepts, and a good eye for talent levels. I feel I do. To make you feel bettter. I don't see anything in the game of Kelsay or Denney, that makes them starters. As compared to other teams around the league, they look like rotational players, with minimal quickness/poor closing burst. They hardly demand any attention. As far as the bills addressing this need. Yes I feel it's a dire need. The Bills haven't drafted a pass rusher, since Aaron Schobel. I worry they'll continue to ignore, the most important aspect of defensive football, because of the money tied up in the position. Sadly that aspect overrides the reality of needs.

You realize that if the FO feels DE is fine then we won't get one in round 1, right? So speculating on how they feel about their pass rushers is rather pointless. We were among the league leaders in sacks 2 years ago, and none of these players are past their prime. The difference between DE and other positions is that it's a need based on what the FO thinks, not like WR or TE.
billybob Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 best things to have 1. great QB 2. dominate lines 3. everything else- or more to the point 1. great QB 2a. people who protect the QB 2b. people who attack the QB
John from Riverside Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Wow we might be on to something.... Triplett and Tim anderson couldnt cut it? Really? But since Kelsey/Denny and Shobel combined for 26+ sacks to years ago and our entire defence 40 they really are backups I just keep coming back to the scenario in my mind..... Defense makes a stop, sacks a QB, causes a turnover.....insert scenario here...... Offense.....runs the ball against a stacked defens....3 and out......ball goes back to the opponent or we end up scoring a field goal...... I mean....that SUCKS.....lets give the offense a fighting chance with some offensive playmakers....or god forbit force our oppenents D to play honset allowing for Marshawn to do his thing or catch some balls out of the backfield...... We need to address our offense to....and not with guys from the 4th round on...... Note....while I have no source you cannot help but think Lee Evans is watching to see what bills mgt does to improve this offense and take the double teams off of him. It might make the difference between him staying or going.
Rockinon Posted April 23, 2008 Author Posted April 23, 2008 I remember watching a game against New England, I think Beldsoe was our quarterback. It was our first game against them that season. The Bills really handed them thier asses that day. What I remember most is how bad Brady looked. The defense was employing a bunch of blitz packages and really getting under his skin. I saw it again in the last Superbowl. I think we really need to get some depth on the D-line. DT or DE doesn't matter. An option may be to get a Tackle that can play nose. I like Defensive End too. Yes, people I know the Offense has needs. With 10 picks in the draft it's going to happen. With DE or DT at 11, we get a seriously scary defense. We also get a man big enough to put the fear of God into the ball carrier on special teams kick coverage. With reciever we get well....... a reciever. We have an oportunity to not just try to out run opponents here. We could actually beat them by being dominant.

MartyBall4Buffalo Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Yes we need to address our offense. Let's be serious for a moment though we have 10 picks in the draft. We have needs on both side of the ball. As many people think we need a wr. Which we certinally do. There are those of us who view the defensive line in that same vain. Under neither circumstance, am I advocating the over drafting of either. However I really do believe, the fastest way to building a championship caliber teams, is by adressing your dline early and often. I'd much rather wreak havock, with a top notch dline, then have high quality wr's. Having an explosive offense is fun. There are just too many teams, who have pairs of high quality wideouts, at the expense of other positions. If we're going to go a certain route. I'd rather we emulate teams like the patriots/giants/eagles/chargers then teams like the lions/zona/cincy. This dline needed an offensive line esque makeover. Stroud is a nice start. Spencer Johnson if he can be good depth great. McCargo should continue to improve. The outside pass rush needs upgrading, and depth needs to be added. The Offense should very likely get weapons. Look at these wideouts and ask this. Is any wideout in this years draft, a better prospect then say Lee Evans, when the Bills took him over the likes of Tommie Harris/Wilfork in 04? Or even are these wideouts better then a good majority of defensive prospects that will be there?
Rockinon Posted April 23, 2008 Author Posted April 23, 2008 Note....while I have no source you cannot help but think Lee Evans is watching to see what bills mgt does to improve this offense and take the double teams off of him. It might make the difference between him staying or going. I'd be willing to bet that Lee Evans believes that the other recievers on this team can still step up. If I were him I'd be thinking that a good tight end would make all of the recievers look better. Tight end gives you a big target, catches the defense off guard when he slips out to catch a ball instead of staying in to block and because he is big and fast, he is a perfect addition to the special teams unit. This also stays in line with building a Dominant football team.
