June 1st cuts are not important any more with so many teams well under the salary cap. Only a few over paided on the decline players will be cut.

Also, I believe most of the teams force teams to cut veterans on March 1st by adding in a roster bonus for March 1st into their contracts....This forces the teams to part ways with Veterans on March 1st or they get to play the rest of the season.

What way is that ive never heard anything like that, only that the bengals lose 8 million if they cut him

They don't lose $8M. That is the cap hit they will take.

It will cost them the same if they trade or cut him.

The Bengals can spread that 8 million over 2 years now if they cut him. Previously a team would have to wait until after June 1 to spread the hit over 2 years.

According to the B'gals beat reporter Mark Curnutte, you have to wait June 1st to spread the hit over 2 years...

profootballtalk.com has been mocking that guy for months because he is flat out wrong

if johnson is cut (couldn't pass up a lebowski moment) before june 1st the hit can be spread over 2 years........i believe the rule is teams are allowed to designate two players as "post-june 1 cuts" and release them........the reason they brought this in is to get players out on the market earlier instead of june when teams are less likely to spend and have basically finished their rosters

if he's traded before that date the team still have to take the entire hit in 2008

The June cut is no longer that important as many contracts now stipulate for a roster bonus in early March. So, most of the big name players that are too expensive have already been cut, resigned or traded.
