Has anyone ever been a movie extra? tell us about it.

My wife is onscreen for a few seconds as an extra in 'Smart People' - filmed in Pittsburgh last year. Unfortunately, the movie sucks, but she looks pretty good in a street scene walking next to Dennis Quaid.

She is also in the Kevin Smith movie 'Zack and Miri make a Porno' that is coming out in October. Seems that quite a few movies are filmed in Pittsburgh - probably because the city gives the production companies tax breaks - unlike Buffalo.

Cool. No youtube link?

I have a friend was an extra in a courtroom scene. I can't remember the name -- some crappy Jessica Lange movie.

Was an extra in the Natural when it was shot in South Dayton as a kid. Got sick and couldn't go to the Rockpile scenes though.

Ended up on the cutting room floor anyway. Joe Don Baker was cool though and to my 12-year-old eyes a friggin monster of a man.

Not a movie, but in the official Woodstock 99 dvd, during Jewel's performance, you can see me backstage. I was a volunteer on the staff and was hanging out back there during some of the performances.

I was Dirk Digglers rooster double

Double!? Don't you mean his 1/1000th?

When I was in college approx. 1984 word went around that they were looking for extra's in a low, low, low budget movie called Minges Alley. So a huge amount of people went for a nightclub scene in the movie and, of course, these wannabe actors were all looking at the camera as they filmed making the scenes look like everyone was looking at a camera. So they had to keep stopping and reminding people to "look natural". I stayed at the bar and had my back to the camera talking to a guy. (Because I am

If I ever go to Letterman that could be my brush with greatness.

This is all I could find on the internet about the movie Minges Alley.

The funny thing is that it shows a release date of 1994 which would make it released 10 years after principal filming. While I find it a little strange that it was released 10 years later I'm really not surprised. It is not even listed on IMDB.

A friend of mine. Rev. Samuel, directed this movie and I was a script consultant on his movie Schwag the movie.

Hey dude... I've actually done quite a bit of extra work through SAG in the past.... If you're union, it can actually be good money... I know some that do it full time and make a great living... but I don't know if that's possible outside So. Cal. or maybe NYC....

Some of the Movies/T.V. I did as an extra/stand-in:

Baseketball

Star Trek:Insurrection

Man On The Moon

American Pie

Brimstone

Freaks and Geeks (actually worked several episodes of this)

Andersonville (worked for 6 weeks straight in Atlanta on this)

First Daughter (got to react to Katie Holmes wearing a bikini all day! Hard work!)

Third Rock From the Sun

Melrose Place

Beverly Hills 90210

The 60's (tv miniseries with Julia Styles-she's very cool and friendly)

and I earned my SAG card by dressing up as Carmen Miranda in a really bad movie called "Secret Lives of Girls"... it was quite humiliating, but I got in the union and also got a standing ovation from the cast and crew for sacrificing my manhood!!!

I also did other stuff including a commercial with Bill Cowher... He's a funny guy, actually....
