mead107 Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 is sending out a check today ? I am .Both state and fed .
PastaJoe Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 We do our taxes in early March as soon as we get all our earnings info, and we try to set our withholdings so we get a little back. Don't want to send a check, and don't want the gov't holding too much surplus that we could invest and get a higher rate of return.
Bullpen Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Uncle Silly is sending us some money, but we get to turn that right back around and send a good portion of it to the lovely State of Colorado, so they can continue to not have a snow-removal plan.
eball Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 We'll be getting a refund, both Fed and State. Although I know it's not wise to float the government a loan for twelve months, I really enjoy seeing that direct deposit hit my account. I realize it was my money all along, but it still feels like a bonus.
plenzmd1 Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 I am sending one out today. For some reason I get hammered on federal, but get refund from state. At the risk of sounding like an ass(which i normally do) my bill is pretty big. Knew it was coming so planned for it however. But I also have to pay my withholding on my nanny(yes i do all above the board), FUTA taxes etc. I also do not cheat one iota, never have never will. Part of being a citizen in this great country, and while being a stuanch Republican, have no problem paying my fair share
dib Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Holy Buckets! I'm getting money back this year. I dont remember EVER getting money back. Of course there is that that college tuition thing
Dr. Fong Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 This is the first year that I will owe taxes. Man does it hurt to write that check.
Phil Indablanc Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Money back from both but I'm worried about next year as my son will be turning 17 soon. That thousand bucks made all the difference on the fed this year. BTW I used taxslayer.com and I would strongly recommend it to everybody. Easy to use and a grand total of $9.95 including efile for both fed and state. It took me about an hour to do the long form with itemized deductions.
BuffaloBud Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Refund from state (received), payment to fed (today). Try to balance one against the other.
Marv's Neighbor Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 is sending out a check today ? I am .Both state and fed . Me too and I'm in one of the more "moderate" states (VA.)
stuckincincy Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 I would move general elections to the 1st Tuesday in May. With the fresh memory of forking over taxes on April 15th in people's minds, these tax-hiking, back-scratching, vote-buying socialist politicians would cease to exist.
Philly McButterpants Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Today is my daughter's birthday . . . I remember the OB/GYN that delivered her saying that he needed to send in his tax check. My wife asked how much he owed and he said about $25K . . . Eleven years ago . . . Shoulda went to med school instead of smokin' reefer in my early 20's . . .
WWVaBeach Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Holy Buckets! I'm getting money back this year. I dont remember EVER getting money back. Of course there is that that college tuition thing Huh?
WWVaBeach Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Got back from the commonwealth ...paying Uncle Sam ...but It's just over 200 bucks so I increased my with holding and increased the amount going to my 401...should offset it for next year.
gmac17 Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 got a refund for the first time in a while, but only because I was sick of paying each april so we overpaid our estimated by a decent amount.
tennesseeboy Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Getting a nice refund..but then again the clowns in Washington are so judicious about spending it. I watched 60 minutes on Sunday and it was nice to find out we're funding all of the Iraqi ministers homes in Paris and most of the friggin Iraqi insurgency with it. Geez..we'd just piss it away on gas and mortgage payments.
JoeFerguson Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 I would move general elections to the 1st Tuesday in May. With the fresh memory of forking over taxes on April 15th in people's minds, these tax-hiking, back-scratching, vote-buying socialist politicians would cease to exist. That's a really good idea. Have you ever considered running for office?
stuckincincy Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 That's a really good idea. Have you ever considered running for office? Rarely...but my hack/Mob pals in the Bflo Democratic political machine, for years, wanted me to run - but since I'm neither a thief, egomaniac, financial con man, or liar, I demurred...
RunTheBall Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 If every person who received a paycheck got their GROSS salary and had to write quarterly checks to the government, you can bet your a$$ there would be less voter apathy and more accountability from our corrupt politicians. RTB
