I'd pick these guys in order if available in that round. I didn't put guys who won't be there, like Gholston or Ellis in the 1st or Jerod Mayo in the 2nd. If a WR is picked up in an early round, the WR's listed below would fall down the list, but not much. The number before their name in the later rounds is DraftTek's Player Rank, exclusive of need.

Round 1 #11--Priority is to get a Difference-Maker, hopefully contributing this year, preferably Offensive Target for Edwards. BPA on offensive side is a guard. Trade Down if possible if it nets an extra 2nd and/or 3rd. Love the 3rd Round.

In doing this, two things became crystal-clear:

1. The best players available in Round 1 at #11 are defensive players. Only Branden Albert (and I'm not entirely sold on him) is rated as a "Value" pick by DraftTek. My knock on Albert is that he benched the LEAST number of times of the Top 5 OG's.

2. I want more Round 3 picks, because there are more players I like in Round 3 than in Round 4, 5, or 6. I like Rounds 3 and 7 for value at those picks.

Things just don't fall our way in Rd. 1 unless we trade down. Hopefully there will be a player available that a couple teams will want...McKelvin or Cromartie are the most likely. All it takes is one team wanting to jump ahead to pick their CB. Drop back and grab your WR. (though I would still be crazy happy if they traded up for Ellis if he's there at #8)

Round 2 Bennett has to be the pick if he's there.

Round 3 or 4 address CB. The rest of the draft is depth.

Nice work as always Astro...thanks.

I honestly don't know a ton about his measurables? Benching is not always a clear indicator though. Short armed guys have a big advantage in benching and a huge disadvantage on the field. If Albert is long armed and had a sub-par bench I'm OK. If he's short armed and had a bad bench number it's a problem.

Who thinks we need to start thinking about Moorman's heir apparent?

Dragosavich and Durant Brooks are the best in a while at punter, and one (Dragosavich) punted for ND State--think cold and windy. He'd be a 7th or UDFA.

Unless you're going to put a punter on your practice squad he would have to be an UDFA.

He has long arms.

Thanks. Answers that question. he gets a bit of a pass on the bench number.

For those who don't know. It's harder because you have to push the weight further and your elbows are further away from your torso which changes the fulcrum point. They only give you credit for full, all the way up to lock out and then all the way down to your chest presses. Guys with huge chests and short arms have a very easy time since the weight has a shorter distance to travel.

Other players that will make teams want to trade up for are the trio of OT's (the last team picking gets the leftovers scenario, which at this point the "leftover" team looks like either Carolina at 13, Chicago at 14, or Philly at 19. If one of them wants to leapfrog for their pick of OT, Buffalo is right at the head of that logjam.

The other leapfrog scenario is for their choice of RB's. Mendenhall-Stewart could be picked at #14, 15, or 16, and if you want your choice you need to be right around #11.

This leapfrog scenario is taking place before my eyes in our Draft Tek Correspondents Mock Draft taking place here:

Chicago at 14 just contacted me with a better offer than the Vikes had.

More soon.

It seems like the past week or two Albert has been moving up draft charts, at least on this board. Was he always projected to go very high, meaning early-mid first round?

Posted

Albert was always in that #15-20 range, with no other guards even in RD2. Only knock on him was the bench press, and his long arms make it hard to match the others. The other plus on him is that he may slide to OT if needed.
