DreamOnDan Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 I can see why Devin Thomas has climbed from a 2nd rd pick to the top WR in this years draft now that I have spent some time looking him over. He is very impressive to watch, and an amazing athlete. I haven't heard him speak. I question his intelligence only because the obvious reason. He was a Junior college transfer. Which doesn't mean he isn't the next Einstein.. He is a High risk reward player, defined by his meager 1 year of college production. His college coaches really wanted him to stay. He has posted outstanding postseason workouts that have highlighted his stunning athleticism and sent him soaring up the charts. Put up a record breaking season at Michigan State working himself from a #2 wr to the focal point of the offense. Has the NFL-type build with room to grow. He is an all around threat. He can run the reverse and return kickoffs as well as anybody. He has the absolute best RAC ability of all of the WRs taller than 6-1. Showed great hands in workouts using an exceptional short area burst and body control to catch anything near him. He does not shy from contact but remains very elusive. Jim Miller fromer NFL qb and radio analyst claims that Devin Thomas has all the tools to be a superstar WR. He covers the games for Michigan State and I heard an interview on sirius with him. He couldn't stop raving about the guy. He thinks that the bills will take him. He was invited to the combine and had a pro day, here are his numbers (note comments from Jauron mid-page): http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/profile.php?pyid=67905 Here are his stats: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=183856 Here are some youtube highlights of him: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHbkz0IMIeA Here are some write ups about him: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/nf...as_N.htm?csp=34 good read http://www.milehighreport.com/story/2008/4/7/215150/4343 A Must Read http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article.../803130395/1055 he is so impressive http://msuspartans.cstv.com/sports/m-footb...as_devin00.html official Msu plater page There is a good chance that This guy is on the Bills next season. Hopefully I'v provided some good insight for you to form your own opinion... I like this guy a lot. I still like the size of Hardy and Sweed. I'll bump their pages too.
Pete Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 I like Devin Thomas a lot and hope the Bills select him if Ellis and Dorsey are off the board.
Brandon Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 While I'm leaning toward Sweed with that pick now, I wouldn't be surprised or disappointed at all if Devin Thomas were their pick at 11. The lack of experience concerns me, but there's no question that Thomas is about as talented a WR prospect as you'll find. He'd be a very good pick, I think, even if a risky one.

marauderswr80 Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 As much as I like Thomas and would be fine with the pick, I still want that BIG WR........ For some reason, I can see Buffalo drafting Devin Thomas with the 11th, and sneak near the top of the 2nd and steel Sweed or Hardy.......

Thomas' definitely meets the eye test and stats test but due to him only performing in one season in the NCAA Division 1 he's a definite risk. Like you, I much favor Sweed as he's not as much as a gamble. As Sweed was the top ranked WR going into the season, his stock fell after his injury but seems to have reclaimed the #1 spot inpart because of Kelly's poor 40 time. I'm not opposed to taking him in the 1st my only issue is at pick #11 as think it's a little high. Yet the Bills have shown recently that they don't taking a guy higher then anticipated if they like him.
marauderswr80 Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 Yeah I dont believe in the "taking guys too high is a risk" stuff. The way that I look at it, if the guy can help your football team you take him, no matter where you draft. If Thomas can tandem with Evans and get this offense rolling to where they rate mid pack or better in the league, then I guess the 11th pick is well worth it huh.......... Its simple if you like the guy why not take him.......why trade down cross your fingers noone else takes him and if hes gone draft someone that was 2nd on your list.........

If the Bills LOVE the guy, I agree with you take him. If they have him rated equally with a group of people, then they can trade down, knowing a player in the group will be there.
KOKBILLS Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 I like Devin Thomas a lot and hope the Bills select him if Ellis and Dorsey are off the board. Agreed Pete... You know I've been of the opinion that the Bills will sit tight at #11 and Draft Thomas for a while now...The more I see and hear about the Kid the more excited I get to be honest...He's going to be a bit raw initially, but He should help out some on Special Teams in the meantime...But I think the Kid has by far the biggest Upside of The WR's in this Draft...He's got it all...Size, hands, jumping ability, RAC, and that burst of speed WR's are only born with...They say He's never learned a complete Route Tree, so Bills Fans are going to have to be a bit patient with Thomas ( I can't believe I just wrote those words!)...But 2-3 Years from now He could be REAL special... We'll see soon enough...
