Billsfanfourlife Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 When is this team going to learn??? We can not have two potential starters going into next season. Yes the job has been given Trent Edwards, but as soon as he shows any signs of struggling the whispers of JP will start circulating on these very boards. Yea yea it can be said why not have two good quarterbacks when you can, but as recent history shows (Reich and Kelly were a good tandem hence the "recent") if the Bills keep losman it will no doubt ably kill us. Trent is still a young QB, and he's going to have bad games but he needs to know he's the guy and that he doesn't have Losman waiting for him to mess up. Not having losman gives Trent control of this team and a clear state of mind with one focus winning games, not the starting QB position. His knacks are the deep ball, well just today buffalobills.com released a story saying he's added about 15-20 lbs. Just ask Tom Brady what weight lifting after his rookie year did for him. The fact is he has what JP doesnt, a head on his shoulders. JP gets through his reads about as fast as I get through quantum physics. This is a gift that Trent has, all the good QB's have it. Bottom line, with the draft coming up soon, trade JP and get a 3-4-5 rd pick, whatever we can, and sign a vetran like a Trent Dilfer, or a Quinn Gray. Better yet Craig Nall is still available for the most part he knows the system (i realize we have new Offensive Coordinator) and not to mention the players. He would be a very good backup and he wouldn't threaten Trent for the starting job. Get rid of JP and end all this rotating quarterback crap. If we do that, then we'll have a far better 08-09 season.
In-A-Gadda-Levitre Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 so, what you're saying is that if we cut JP loose, and sign a veteran like Trent Dilfer, nobody will ever suggest starting the backup qb? what's the difference if the backup is JP Losman or some journeyman? The result is always the same, the fans and media will call for a change if TE begins to wither. The only issue is if the coaching staff starts playing musical qbs. Get over it....
TavernontheTracks Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 Couldnt agree more, I like Losman, hes talented, works hard and is a team first guy. But if Trent has more than one bad game, which is inevitable, we will have RJ and Flutie all over again. Get any pick we can and show Trent hes the unquestioned starter in 08.
Tipster19 Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 Do you think that it has anything to do with the jersey number? Flutie and Losman both have worn #7 and all hell broke loose. I think that if I were a QB I would take a number that's unusual, like #6 or #19.

Personally i don't feel trent has done enough to earn the Job outright. Competition is alwasy good for a team i see no reason to dump JP just because
Ramius Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 If the front office starts making decisions based off the rumblings on message boards, then this franchise is fuct.
SABURZFAN Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 If the front office starts making decisions based off the rumblings on message boards, then this franchise is fuct. i agree. if the front office listened to the mental midgets who wanted Losman's contract extended, this franchise would be "fuct."
marauderswr80 Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 I think any team in the NFL would love to have 2 potential starters..........
TavernontheTracks Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 were in trouble if OBD listens to us no doubt, keep in mind JP wants out, he has said as much. It is a tribute to his character that he showed up at the voluntary conditioning certainly but this just seems like it could blow up halfway through what could be a turnaround season
ExpertOpinion Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 Personally i don't feel trent has done enough to earn the Job outright. Competition is alwasy good for a team i see no reason to dump JP just because I agree and I disagree with you. I agree that no team should ever take the approach that we need a backup that will NOT challenge for the starting job. Some people last year thought that Edwards fit that description when drafted, even when experts like myself were telling them otherwise. They thought he was brought in strictly as Losman's backup. They weren't paying attention to was going on when they made that assumption. Or maybe they didn't want to. Where do I disagree ? I disagree when you that they should keep Losman. Why? For the very reason that they should always look to have a backup who is viable competition for the starting job. In the 4 years that Losman was here he has proven that he is NOT a viable starter for the BIlls. What the Bills need is a QB who threatens for the starting job AND has long term potential as their starter. That means Losman is out of the picture. If they want competition at QB , the last QB you give that shot to is the same QB that failed to make the grade for four years. If they cannot feel comfortable extending his contract then they need to move him. And they will.

Asking yourself questions and answering them to sound smart.

Dan Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 We have Hamdan I heard Hamdan is building some tall building in downtown Buffalo to revitalize the local economy in his spare time because he got bored throwing touchdown passes in all the offseason practices.
