boomerjamhead Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 That would be the best possible scenario, IMO. There are enough ways to trade back into the bottom of round one to snag the WR we need, which would be the best value place to get one. Good point, but I think the best place to make the WR pick is a trade up in round 2.
Pete Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 Good point, but I think the best place to make the WR pick is a trade up in round 2. IMO thats the way the Bills are gonna do it. Just a guess but I got a feeling they are going D with the first pick
Lurker Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 Good point, but I think the best place to make the WR pick is a trade up in round 2. Either/or...from pick 24-40 probably is the best spot to get one, based on the quality of this year's crop.
DreamOnDan Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 Great NEws! #1 OLB Keith Rivers drops in our lap, and the Bills have the best LB corps since the good old days. I haven't studied him much. Is he the next Patrick Willis? What kind of NFL player does he project to be similar to?
Pete Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 I haven't studied him much. Is he the next Patrick Willis? What kind of NFL player does he project to be similar to? Rivers is awesome at pass coverage. He is very good at pass rushing and is an excellent athlete. He is more versatile then Willis IMO
boomerjamhead Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 IMO thats the way the Bills are gonna do it. Just a guess but I got a feeling they are going D with the first pick You're exactly right about D first. I hope the pick is Rivers, but I wouldn't be disappointed with a trade down and then the pick of Connor. Who is #1 on your WR board? I want Doucet in the 2nd.

Doucet is very solid- great blocker and the type of player I think Jauron covets. I think the Bills have a WR in mind that they want and have a plan to land them on first day. It very well could be Doucet

Dibs Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 Rivers is awesome at pass coverage. He is very good at pass rushing and is an excellent athlete. He is more versatile then Willis IMO If we get Rivers I couldn't see us switching to a 3-4 at this stage......to heavily invested in the T2 type(need) players. I would think it means we would not re-sign Crowell & let him walk after 2008.
In space no one can hear Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 So what does make sense? Please enlighten us. Here is a start for those that need it. The Bills already have 3 solid starting linebackers and thus Rivers would play a limited role. I don't see having a top quality fourth linebacker a dire need. Before a top quality fourth linebacker, we can use improvement at: CB FS TE DE.....(even just a pass rushing specialist) WR C FB All of those are more important positions to fill before a backup linebacker.

Rivers would not be a backup LB on this defense - he would put Crowell on the bench where he belopngs as a quality backup to all 3 spots

BuffaloBilliever Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 I like Rivers, if we hadn't picked up Kawika I'd be all over getting him. But I've been watching some film... and I realize something. No matter how many great players you put on defense, if you're defense is tired because you're Offense can't do anything better than a damn three and out, every player will be tired. Schobel and Kelsay, probably with some rest, will revert back to their old sacking-selves. Plus, people are definitley unerestimating the addition of Marcus Stroud to this pass rush. O-Lines had Schobel off the edge to be worried about... and he STILL put up 80+ tackles this year. Larry Tripplet lining up next to Kelsay only meant you knock Larry back, then help with Chris off the edge, leaving Kyle Williams in a one on one, and he's more fitted for the clogging of the middle. Again, just what I see...
Sherman Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 I don't think we will draft a linebacker. We play a 4-3 and have 3 solid linebackers who can play all 3 downs. Their backups, DiGeorgeo and Ellison have starting experience and can do in a pinch. The d line makes sense because if anything happens to Stroud we are in trouble and we could do better than Williams for backup there. If the bills think they can get a #2 reciever in round 2 the best value at #11 may be o line. They have no depth there. Butler did well last year but I think Otah would be a monster in what we are looking to do this year. Butler could then be a backup at either guard or tackle. Marv's philosopy: Run and stop the run! He may have imposed that on this front office. The only way to impose that theory is to have good lines, offense and defense.

Steely Dan Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 The Bills have much more pressing needs than LB. If Rivers falls to them I'd rather they trade back with a team who wants him.

I think we have weaker players projected to be starters than him. For example: Josh Reed, Ko Simpson,Chris Kelsay,Melvin Fowler and Robert Royal among others. Thus, replacing Crowell is certainly not needed in the first round. There are higher priorities.
