EVERETT A FINALIST FOR HALAS AWARD: According to the Dallas Morning News Bills tight end Kevin Everett has been named a finalist for the George S. Halas Courage Award by the Pro Football Writers of America. The award is given to the player or coach who has performed with abandon despite injury or personal problems.

The other finalists include Dallas Cowboys defensive end Greg Ellis, who I believe returned this season from an achilles injury, Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress who played the entire season injured, Giants QB Eli Manning and the Washington Redskins for their 4-1 record following the death of Sean Taylor to qualify for the playoffs.

For those that may not remember, former Bears great Gale Sayers was the 1970 winner of the Halas Award and in his acceptance speech said he was going to give it to his teammate Brian Piccolo who was in the midst of fighting a cancerous tumor in his chest, and would eventually succumb to the disease.

I think Everett has a good chance of winning this award in light of his recovery, even though what he did occurred off the field.
