Halas Courage Award by the Pro Football Writers of America. The award is given to the player or coach who has performed with abandon despite injury or personal problems. The other finalists include Dallas Cowboys defensive end Greg Ellis, who I believe returned this season from an achilles injury, Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress who played the entire season injured, Giants QB Eli Manning and the Washington Redskins for their 4-1 record following the death of Sean Taylor to qualify for the playoffs. For those that may not remember, former Bears great Gale Sayers was the 1970 winner of the Halas Award and in his acceptance speech said he was going to give it to his teammate Brian Piccolo who was in the midst of fighting a cancerous tumor in his chest, and would eventually succumb to the disease. While his performance and courage were off the field they shouldn't have put him on list unless that doesn't matter. Picking anyone else would seem really lame.
