The Poojer Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 Me likey! I always assumed they were just another rap band riding the wave, no idea were a 'gorillaz' style 'band'....See Chef...another reason to not assume things there is good stuff out there, even if it is almost all studio produced. Knew the song Crazy...never put two and two together... btw, new releases from REM, Counting Crows, B-52's and Joe Jackson are all kick ass!
Just Jack Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 btw, new releases from REM, Counting Crows, B-52's and Joe Jackson are all kick ass! Sirius has been doing "REM Radio" all weekend on 18-Spectrum

Fan in San Diego Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 Just curious, where have you been to just now be hearing Gnarls?
The Poojer Posted April 7, 2008 Author Posted April 7, 2008 like i alluded to in my original post, i pre-judged them to be one of the "latest and greatest" flavor of the day Rap acts.....never gave them a listen, just made up my mind based on bupkiss.... Just curious, where have you been to just now be hearing Gnarls?

Who said I assumed anything? I think most new musics sucks because seeing I'm constantly looking for new stuff to listen to I'm out there trying to like it. So, I checked out some of their music and ............it's lame, unimaginative and lacking in any real quality musicianship.

And they were terrible.
Chef Jim Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 Ditto, they opened for the Red Hot Chili peppers (who kicked ass). And they were terrible. There are not very many true musicians out there anymore that can perform outside of the studio.
Pete Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 There are not very many true musicians out there anymore that can perform outside of the studio. yes there are- they just are not on mainstream radio. I think I understand your taste in music (Dead, Allmans, in that vein)- well have you heard the new Government Mule? It rocks and no doubt they would be a great show!

Seeing Warren is older than me (man that fuker's old) I hardling consider him new.

Chef Jim Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Check out Charlie Hunter Trio, Ozomatli, Garage Mahal or Greyboy live There are many good groups out there dont' get me wrong. Two of the three you list I've seen. What I'm talking about is that pop music today is pretty bad. Not saying that the bubble gum pop of the past was good, but the 60's and 70's had some great musicians that were still part of the pop music scene. I watched the director's cut of Woodstock this weekend. Amazing who played that weekend. Also it's pretty interesting who was invited but couldn't or didn't make it. I would have loved to have been there.

There is always a great underground scene. Now there is a great underground scene in so many different genres. I prefer it to remain underground, so it doesn't get overplayed and a bunch of meat heads do not ruin it. Woodstock would of been incredible to go to. My father went to the reunion at Yeager's Farm in 94-quite a different vibe from the other Woodstock concert. Which bands of the two did you see live? I love the Charlie Hunter album where he covers "Natty Dread". BTW I listed 4 bands

In space no one can hear Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 There are not very many true musicians out there anymore that can perform outside of the studio. Who do you like...of what's out there?
Chef Jim Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Who do you like...of what's out there? What I'm currently listening to (it changes all the time) And some of it's not "out there" anymore. Grateful Dead Gov't Mule Allman Brothers moe Bob Marley Widespread Panic Phish Trey Anistasio Morphine Jimi Hendrix Live at the Isle of White Baroque Music (got tickets for a baroque festival this summer) Most of that stuff I'm listening to live. I live preformance really demostrates the true musician. Too much can be manipulated in the studio.
