Here's a TE that might be a 2nd day selection for Buffalo.

He's the strongest TE at the Combine and is a great blocker with decent hands. He reminds me of the kind of TE that the Tuna would like down in Miami.

I wouldn't mind seing us taking him in the 3rd round. He sounds better than Fred Davis.

I would be excited about netting Stevens. He is the TE has the best combo of blocking and receiving other than John Carlson, and I am beginning to doubt Carlson lasts to us in the 3rd. Darrell Strong from Pitt would be the other TE I'd like. All threee (Stevens, Carlson, Strong) give us a good receiver who can block.

The only question is just how high a draft pick a blocking tight end is really worth. Yes, Stevens can catch passes; he's scoring a 21-yard touchdown against UCLA in the photo. But he never caught more than three passes in any one game in his college career, and most teams think a tight end who's purely a blocker shouldn't be a first-day pick. But the team that drafts Stevens will have a guy who can step in and contribute in short yardage immediately.

First day picks are not what they used to be. Third round picks are now taken on 2nd day.
