Corner vs. D-lineman early in the draft

Recommended Posts

File this in the FWIW folder.

Colts coach Tony Dungy played defensive back in the NFL, but he would put his money on pass-rushers over cornerbacks every time. "Bill [Polian] and I talk about that," Dungy said from the league meetings in West Palm Beach, Fla. "If you had that choice, you've got to go with the front people because they are harder to find and they have more of an impact on the game."

Bill from NYC gives two thumbs up!!!

Here are the Colts last 10 top picks:

2007 - WR Anthony Gonzales

2006 - RB Joseph Addai

2005 - CB Marlin Jackson

2004 - S Bob Sanders

2003 - TE Dallas Clark

2002 - DE Dwight Freeney

2001 - WR Reggie Wayne

2000 - LB Rob Morris

1999 - RB Edgerrin James

1998 - QB Peyton Manning

One defensive lineman in the group and a whole lot of skill position players, including two DBs. Not that it proves anything, mind you. Just an interesting contrast to Dungy's statement.

i think the real secret (from looking at the colts drafts) is get get a friggen super star stud every draft and you'll be ok

peyton -- maybe best ever?

edge -- super star RB

morris -- miss

wayne -- stud probowl top 5 type wr

freeney -- best pass rusher in the nfl (top 3 anyway) and a monster

clark -- top 3 tight end

snaders -- D player of year, stud and a half

jackson -- very solid cb if not great

addai -- stud rb, from day 1

gonzo -- p1mp wr, very promising.

i think getting great players > always getting linemen
