(AP) -- Taking another technological step forward, NFL owners approved a communication device for defenses Tuesday. One defensive player will wear a helmet similar to what the quarterback is allowed on offense. Should that player leave the game, a teammate can be designated to also have the device. But only one defender with the device can be on the field at a time.

Steely Dan Posted April 1, 2008 Author Posted April 1, 2008 Voting against the measure were Seattle (Mike Holmgren), Tampa Bay (Jon Gruden), Oakland (Lane Kiffin), Philadelphia (Andy Reid), St. Louis (Scott Linehan), Washington (Jim Zorn) and Green Bay (Mike McCarthy). Funny how none of those guys coach in the AFCE and only one is an AFC HC and he's from the stupid Faders!

Funny how none of those guys coach in the AFCE and only one is an AFC HC and he's from the stupid Faders! NFL scoring will be down this year as a result of this. Thats not so great for an anemic offense like the Bills have.

Maybe it's a good step to actually get back on a level playing field. Now only if they'd get rid of the babying the quarterback flags. One day hopefully go back to letting db's be more agressive playing wideouts. Bring back Defensive football.

Looks like Vic Carucci saw same thing I saw. http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d8...mp;confirm=true From all that I can gather, a strong contingent of offensive-minded coaches convinced their team owners who voted that providing the same technology for the defense that the offense has used since 1994, through the coach-to-quarterback system, would not be good for their respective teams. It’s hardly a coincidence that all of the “no” votes came from teams led by coaches with offensive backgrounds: Green Bay (Mike McCarthy), Oakland (Lane Kiffin), Philadelphia (Andy Reid), St. Louis (Scott Linehan), Seattle (Mike Holmgren), Tampa Bay (Jon Gruden), and Washington (Jim Zorn).
