The heading of the article "Top 30 News Sites" is a little misleading.

The list is ordered by "Sessions per Person" of those visiting the sites. The number of "unique visitors" is listed next to the number of "sessions per person" and you can easily see that the Drudge Report is nowhere near the #1 news site. Also, the Buffalo News gets nowhere near the number of unique visitors as the other sites, but those that visit the site visit often (at least often enough to make this list).

The only time I go there is when someone links something from here to there and I used to deliver their damn paper.

Dean - well said. It really means nothing other than drudge wanted to toot his horn.

this puts it all in perspective...

Well, the data are real. It is ONE of the metrics Nielsen/Net Ratings reports. I'm guessing someone at Drudge probably put out a report touting their top ranking in repeat visits...but, this article wasn't from Drudge. It was from Newspaper Association of America. One might think they would be interested in hyping the websites of the daily newspapers, not Drudge.

What it really shows is, ignorance, by the reporters and editors. They have no understanding of these numbers and simply write what anyone with a good story, tells them.

A good general rule is, if it's an article about research results (polling, medical research, social research, etc) it's probably either overblown, confused or flat out wrong.
