don_of_manhattan
He is in attendance at the first day of workouts. Look at all the !@#$s out there who are unhappy with their situation and use the media to bargain and leverage their no-shows as a badge of some display of courage. JP is not divisive..he is a team guy. In my mind this only enhances his trade value if that's the route we go and it shows me that he will be okay if we keep him. We can trash him all we want for his play on the field...but he constantly shows me he is a mature, team-oriented player...I am glad he is still a Bill. From Chris Brown: LOSMAN IN ATTENDANCE: Buffalobills.com confirmed that QB J.P. Losman was in the building for the start of Buffalo's offseason program and did attend position meetings. --- I'd love to see him stay for another year. rockpile
Not right away. I was at RWS cheering when he won his first game. I wanted him to be good. There, that is the difference. I wanted him to be a good quarterback because I care more about the Bills/WNY/NYS than I do about any 1 individual player. Besides, Trent is already doing things that JP will probably never be good at after what, 9 games? The bold emphasis is how I feel about every player on this team. No "besides" or other additions to the statement.
rockpile
Any thread concerning JP and Trent is going to be stupid. It may start our innocent enough, but it WILL unfortunately become stupid. Anyway, Hamburg is closer to Orchard Park than Buffalo, you stupid head. (see what I mean?) JP Losman lives in Buffalo, NY all year round. Trent Edwards and his sister live in Hamburg, NY and apparently only during the regular season. JP takes a vacation, but lives there all the time. Trent leaves after the season is over, and returns when the off-season conditioning starts. Keep repeating the above, cuz apparently you have trouble understanding the concepts. JP is very visible in the community, he talks up the city to anyone that will listen, invests his time and money there, and while he didn't buy a 4br, 2 car garage, suburban house near the stadium right after he signed, it's of no consequence. He bought property downtown from the outset, and then a much larger house in the city a couple years later. Trent is a good guy, I have nothing against him, but he never says or does much (from a civic standpoint) for the region. He works hard at his job, and then goes back to one of the most affluent communities in the USA. I don't think it's a big deal either way, but to bash JP and celebrate TE is just plain stupid! Booster4324
JP Losman has been a class act off the field and on the field he has always put his team first. I hope he goes into training camp and preseason with a chip on his shoulder and something to prove. In my opinion, we have two potential starters in JP and the Holy Trent. Each with their own special skills and talents they bring to the game. I've talked about this before, when will the mold be broken that you have one starter and only one? If the team you face next week requires a differnt type of play at the QB position to have a better chance at being successful and you have that player on the bench, why not start him? Why not have every team you play wonder who they will be game planning against? I know this is not a new idea, and has been tinkered with before but has anyone commited long enough to see if it would work? If you could win with both, doesn't it just increase the value of your QB's, and as an owner isn't that a good thing? When a players value increases it makes the whole team worth more in my opinion, unless I'm missing something. JP is a good guy and a class act, I hope he stays in Buffalo I have it! (Where's the Eureka smiley?) We should have at least 4 QBs. We could platoon them and have each play a quarter. Or alternately we could get a Hand Off specialist, a Short Range QB, a Long Bomb QB and some dude with varying skill levels in each category (usually known as the starter). I mean if it works for DT's (a much more valuable position than QB) then it should work for QB's.
SABURZFAN
If one wants to be more accurate (which some folks do not because they simply cherry pick the fact(s) which support their point) then a players market value is determined not only by his ability as a player, but also the amount of competition out there at their spot. JP actually has more leverage than Johnson right now because the conventional wisdom is that this is an incredibly deep draft in terms of WR talent which makes it critical in terms of leverage for Johnson to make some noise right now before his market position gets diminished even further by the drafting of several potential competitors. JP on the other hand is a former NFL starting QB with a middlin level of production overall but a clear record as a failed starter, but his coaches made a number of definite errors in his development which would make it silly for other teams to simply declare him done. JP need do nothing more but keep his nose clean and he likely will stand to cash in quite well when FA occurs. Many folks seem to make the mistake of equating salary level to ability as player (they are not the same thing at all though obviously they are strongly related0. They also seem to make the mistake of assuming that a player has some static level of ability which can be assessed when actually the same player can be horrible in a bad situation (the wrong offense for him, bad history, early in his career, etc.) but also be good or very good in the right situation. I think JP is done as a Bill as he declared the Jax game make or break for him and pretty much all he agree he broke. However, I still think he is a young talented player with some clear deficits who could easily produce much better in a different situation. I think the folks who simply write him off as a bad player who will fail everywhere have simply not made a compelling case for this view even though I would agree with them that he is done as a Bill. HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!! it couldn't be any more accurate than that. there was no cherry picking anything. Losman has more leverage NOW because he did what he HAD to do. report to the team and keep his mouth shut. had he chose to not show up, other teams would have considered him done because they would detect it as an attitude problem. had it been ONE coach and ONE offensive coordinator, i could possibly agree with your developmental error comment. but when it's becomes more than one, they obviously see something that you don't. it was obvious that he regressed, last year, from the year before. i'm sure that a couple of teams may be interested. John Matuszak, Steve Largent, Frank Lewis, Jim Plunkett, and many others are examples of that. it's possible. get back to me when he becomes the next Rob Johnson. Bill from NYC
That is exactly the type of comment that gets me pissed..Great post then you throw a dumbass word in there to ruin it..I respect your opinion but then you ruin it with a stupid addon... And you are right. JP has sucked for the better part of 4 years. Trent is already more highly regarded in most circles, including our coaching staff. At the very least, he has a beter shot at having a productive career. JP seems more slated to be RJ II. People are bashing Trent for the most part because they are upset about their "savior" sucking, thus the personal insults and cliches. Me? I am going to enjoy watching Trent develop into a top notch quarterback. This is what I think will happen. I supported JP for as long as I could. I would still support him if he did not suck as a quarterback for most of his career. I don't profess to know what will happen. Trent could get hurt. JP could step in and be a star. This is not an impossible scenario. I just consider it unlikely, based on my lifetime of watching football. Either way...GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My guess is that more than a couple of teams will be interested in a player like JP if he hit FA with is current stats and situation. My sense is they would want to sign him (and likely be happy to pay a pretty penny for him) cause: 1. He is an experienced NFL starter who certainly has not led a winning team in the NFL, but he has compiled personal stats that do not suck (despite the statements of fans who have shown a lot of football knowledge on other issues) but are at the least in the middle of the pack (and easily have been in the upper middle of stat compilations for extended times in his short career). I know many Bills fans hate him and he has disappointed us because he never has led this team to be a winner. However, I my sense is that this disappointment is as much rooted in us Bills fans having high expectations and need for a winning QB after more than a decade of failing to replace Jimbo with a QB who wins a solid majority of the fans and media over for a long time and given the long playoff drought. JP clearly failed here, but one has to be pretty blind not recognize that there were a lot of factors that led to this failure in addition to his not being to cut it as an athlete here. Other teams will realize that this same situation will not exist in his new environs and though it is no guarantee that JP will become a star, it has happened way to many times that a player or even a QB fails miserably in one gig (or two in Brad Johnson's case) and can come back to QB a team to even the ultimate achievement (Johnson, Dilfer, et al). 2. JP had great achievement running for his life but still being productive in college such that he scored a 1st round pick that most thought was legit (many had him as the 4th best QB in that draft and that is where he went. And after 4 seasons (5 when he hits FA but this reverie is based on an assumption (and hope because I hope Edwards is that productive in his second year) that he will not have played so much in his young career that he is used up at all). Not only is he that rarity of a young man with a good dose of NFL starting experience), but his demographics that got him picked in the 1st are still there. There likely will be a ton of teams looking for a new starting QB and likely JP would be one of the most desirable hopes on the market. 3. The idea that JP deserves a harsher judgment because he failed under more than one HC or QB coach tandem ignores the fact that while having multiple tutors does not excuse failure (I think JP is done as a Bill and has to leave here) but this is a real world reason. JP's training has featured him being rushed into the QB job before he had earned it (by his own admission) under Wyche/MM/a couple of OCs. After this debacle he had a hopeful first year under Jauron/Fairchild but not only turned out to be a square peg when a different type of QB was needed for the lame Fairchild O, but he was knocked out of the line0up by a cheapshot from Wilfork (important because two trips to the injured list might raise questions of whether he is injury prone, but given he came back to show good episodes of play after both injuries (his 16 starts last year showed some durability and he played well enough folks were hopeful coming into last season and after he got cheapshotted he did rally the team back to wins and retook the QB job with his play til he called himself out and failed against Jax). JP clearly is not the best athlete in the NFL (like just about everyone else) but it seems clear that neither Bills braintrust chose to play an offensive style which better suited his talents (which he demonstrated behind the Tulane turnstyles and in several NFL episodes. This is not an unreasonable choice as the best players can play and win with multiple styles. However, seeing the reality that JP is not among the best does not mean at all that he must suck. There are more the two options here. If JP chooses the right situation in FA and a team is smart enough to only go after him when they can play well using a rolling pocket and playing with a mobile QB rather than asking him to play a static game, JP has every potential to play quite well. I think JP is done as a Bill in large part not only because he called himself out declaring Jax a make or break game and he broke, but I do not think that the newsmedia here will be willing to value the Bills winning more than them selling column inches with a QB controversy. He could easily win back his teammates confidence if he pulled off a performance like the one he already has done here against NYJ last year. However, the local media will never give him a chance to win back their pretend loyalty even if he QB'ed the team to the playoffs. In addition, there are a set of vocal fans here on TSW and who are happy to call into WGR who are far more entertained by declaring that an athlete sux and is overpaid regardless of how he does than they are with rooting for an athlete to lead the Bills to victory. Will JP be a star elsewhere? Maybe or maybe not. He would need to make good choices to find a team that uses his talents well and he would need a good OC and QB coach (something he never had here) who put him in a position to do what he does best and minimize what he does poorly. Also like every NFL player he will have to get lucky. It easily can happen but there is no guarantee. However, I think the possibility he can do an adequate job at his next stop are actually likely higher than the chances he will suck. Him making a choice and signing with a team that invests in him will likely be a far better situation than him playing for Jauron/Fairchild where he was simply something that came along with the team. Wow that is like a novel , holy cow. I guess it's reasonable to say that you have a strong attachment to Losman. That is not what Losman was originally drafted for, primarily he was paid to excel at QB. Westinghouse
team player and an asset in the community. The guy took to the city of Buffalo and this board kicks him in the balls every chance it gets. I always used to tell my friends how great Bills fans are. Well after seeing how poorly JP is treated I no longer brag about what great fans the Bills are. Keep running good guys out of town- then don't cry to me when the team bolts. If you can't support your team and it's players you do not deserve a team The fans are obligated to think that every player the Bills have is a good player ??? If a buy a ticket to a movie and it sucks , I say it sucks. If I buy a pizza and it sucks I say it sucks. If I buy a car and it's always breaking down I say it's a POS. Should I instead 'support' my pizza and the movie and my car ? So why do you believe that a football team and it's players are a religion ? Westinghouse
I think you're answering that part because that may be all you read. Did you READ the rest of it? You're still saying he bought his house going into his fourth year. He didn't. He bought his house the end of May 2006. He DID do it long before his contract season. Prior to that he lived IN Buffalo from Day 1. You commend Trent for "buying into the community from Day 1" because he bought a house in HAMBURG and spending the off season in California, but then bash JP as disengenous even though he has lived IN Buffalo from Day 1, stays here in the offseason, does a ton of community service, and puts money into the economy year round? I understand it's your feelings and opinions, but really.. does it make any sense? yeah Losman is a real boost to Buffalo's economy LMFAO
