Tipster19 Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 I love this little nugget. Kelly got hurt in both the Sooners' bowl games the past two years. He hasn't participated in any pre-draft events. Kelly plans to run privately on April 9. Mayock hints that there is a good chance Kelly, the No. 1 receiver in the draft according to some internet services, will go in round two. http://rotoworld.com/content/HeadLines.asp...FL&hl=96255 Don't worry sport fans, he'll never make it to the 2nd rd, we'll lock him up with the #11 pick overall and outsmart the rest of the league.

This is why I'm increasingly convinced we need to draft two WRs in the first three rounds. Thomas and Hardy!
Pete Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 This is why I'm increasingly convinced we need to draft two WRs in the first three rounds. Thomas and Hardy! If we do that we can say goodbye to Lee Evans after this season
Oneonta Buffalo Fan Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Limas Sweed is better. But he doesn't have the cold weather experience that Thomas has.
Pete Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 But he doesn't have the cold weather experience that Thomas has. Jerry Rice did not have too much cold weather experience at Mississippi Valley State. Tomlinson did not have too much cold weather experience at TCU. Lawrence Taylor did not have too much cold weather experience. A football player is a football player. They are not !@#$ing flowers- they are football players! No matter what the climate is
tombstone56 Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 This is why I'm increasingly convinced we need to draft two WRs in the first three rounds. Thomas and Hardy! i totally agree draft 2 but one better be a premium tight end
DreamOnDan Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 But he doesn't have the cold weather experience that Thomas has. What is needed in cold weather is the size of a sweed or hardy. Combined with the ability of winning the jump ball.

It's tough for the QB to throw in cold winds in Buffalo, but when was the last time you saw and NFL WR without gloves. Not like his hands will be all that cold. They have heaters on the sideline, and they get paid millions of dollars. The Bills go out and find high character guys who don't give and F what the weather is. You NEVER draft according to where a guy plays, plus, how many college teams play deep enough into winter for it to count anyways?
FloridaSnow Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 This is why I'm increasingly convinced we need to draft two WRs in the first three rounds. Thomas and Hardy! I think your love of late 19th and early 20th century literature is subconsciously trying to come out. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Hardy
dave mcbride Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 But he doesn't have the cold weather experience that Thomas has. Um ... no college receiver really has cold weather experience. The season ends at Thanksgiving.
Tipster19 Posted March 25, 2008 Author Posted March 25, 2008 Um ... no college receiver really has cold weather experience. The season ends at Thanksgiving. Ooh, now that's a great point.
ans4e64 Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Rice = San FranTomlinson = S.D. LT = Desfensive player - not handling football bad point sir!!!!!!! I was thinking the same thing. Those were probably the dumbest examples to pick to prove that point
Tipster19 Posted March 25, 2008 Author Posted March 25, 2008 Based on exactly what the status is on his knees it wouldn't shock me if Kelly were to slip even to the 3rd rd. This is not about his talent but to do with his overall health. It's being said that he's not even on some teams' draft boards and if that is true then it will effect the other teams who do have him on their boards. If you couple this with the fact that there is other positions to be addressed on a team and a wide range of receivers available in this draft and a slide is not out of the question. He's projected to be best suited for a WCO, which we don't run, so why would he be our choice? As far as Limas Sweed goes, he's 6'4"/215 lbs but he's not a very physical receiver. aren't we supposed to be in need of a #2 possession type receiver? A #2 receiver makes me think that this type of receiver should be more on the physical side, no? Is everyone keeping in mind that the speed of the game and fighting off the jam at the LOS is a big adjustment for these college kids? Who excels in these areas out of this crop of prospects? If we are going to take a receiver with our first rd pick then I sure hope that it's going to be Devin Thomas. He looks to not only be the best out of this class but also the safest pick.
Dwight Drane Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 The Bills LOVE players with injury questions, as it deflates their projected value and then can be viewed as a steal. Look at our draft last year: 1) Lynch- missed games with continuous ankle and back issues 2) Poz - Blown out knee, out for year 3) Edwards - shoulder, arm, foot, redshirted 4) Wright - knee injury - missed two years and 2006: 1) Whitner - ACL 2004, out for season 2) McCargo- foot, missed most of '05 Not only that, there is so much misinformation thrown around this time of year that you can't take it seriously. One hot rumor and a guy falls 5-10 spots to where you can grab him. Maybe the Bills can pull something off with Dallas after all. Float the rumor "yeah we had that Kelly kid in this weekend, and MAN are his knees shot. Too bad...nice kid. He could have been a nice player." That NFL is a small world, and some guys will dismiss it as BS, yet some will get nervous and think twice. He may actually have bad knees....but nothing a little "compound" can't hold together for a few years. A sprinkle of glycosamine here, a cortizone shot on Sunday, some hydrocodone on Mon-Sat...and we have ourselves a Pro Bowl receiver.
obie_wan Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Limas Sweed is better. A one handed WR is better than a WR with bad knees everyday of the week (except Sundays)

ndirish1978 Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Um ... no college receiver really has cold weather experience. The season ends at Thanksgiving. Ours do! SB weather sucks! My point it kinda moot though cause so do our receievers
LynchMob23 Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Gonna beg to differ on Sweed not being physical. The kid stiff-arms like a sonofagun and from what I've seen in a few years of watching him in college (not every game to be fair) he wasn't TO, but he wasn't ducking passes over the middle.
