Sex And New York.....

Recommended Posts

These guys are just freaking crazy.

I chose the wrong line of work. Everything I do is up to my wife, and I have no public funds to offer her.

I watch TV. I know what you all do with all the money in the evidence room.

The political process needs a reboot. Get rid of everyone and try again. It's almost expected that politicians will be corrupt.

:thumbsup::P<_<:thumbsup:<_<

Seriously.......would increasing the salary big time help?

My guess is no. NYC Police Officers make pennies, and most are afraid to take a half price soda.

With detail money, you could make close to 150k a year up here in Boston. Do they not require a detail cop at all construction sites in NYC?

No. They cut overtime at every turn. If these cops make a lot of big time robbery arrests, etc., they are interviewed by the "Integrity Officer" to make sure they are not just doing it to make overtime.

Thank God the pension is great.

I really don't believe what I see on TV but that show The Wire had a feel of reality, and I'm sure at least expresses the frustration of the police, who get challenged when they do honest work. You have a tough job and I'm glad you at least get a good pension.

This barely registers a blip in WNY. Most WNY'ers are more concerned about day to day things than where a downstate pol dips his wick. Most WNY'ers tend to have suspicions about most things from NYC/Longed Island up to and including UB students. That dominance NYC has over our little space here on Lake Erie forces us to deal with whatever they send to Albany and that won't change until we secede...and that is of course never.

Would you mind clearly explaining this? Sorry, but I don't know what you are talking about.

At the very least, every election (including primaries) needs a recall vote to force them to find new candidates.

I'll give it a shot, having been in both places. The pervasive attitude of LI students (and yes, it is mostly LI'ers) when they come to UB or Buff State is to look down on the city & the natives. There's a greater degree of arrogance of big city vs small town.

Except the students forget one thing, they're not from the City, they're from LI... And that's why there's resentment. When I was a young lad, I found people from LI to be a lot more obnoxious than NYC.

Your Union's got to get on the ball, Bill. The cops up here don't make a ton of money up front, which is tough especially because they've all got to live within the city limits (cost of living here is pretty high), but anytime anybody does any work at all--cracks a manhole cover, works on a stoplight, digs a 14 billion dollar leaky tunnel--there has to be an officer on duty. It's all ovetime pay, and you don't have to be there for the whole detail...work at least four, get paid for eight.

What do they do for the other four hours? Look for mobsters on no-show jobs?

That is very interesting, and I think that I can visualize the type of kid who would come accross this way.

Long Island is extremely varied. It ranges from Hempstead, which at this point is actually worse than many shady parts of Brooklyn (not to say Brooklyn is all bad mind you) to places like Old Brookville, where I can't think of a reason on earth to not want to live there if you are a multi-millionaire.

In between, there are areas of (mostly the central part) in which the streets are lined with illegal aliens by the literal thousands (here is a lovely example). There are also areas such as Commack, where families tend to be neither rich (by L.I. standards) nor poor. Some of these fools actually pose as being urban tough guys. It is pretty funny to be honest.

Having been to Buffalo for 14 consecutive years, I must say that I have been nothing short of overwhelmed by kindness, thus the confusion. I never sensed that WNYers have an automatic disdain for downstaters, but you would know better than I.

Also, most downstate football fans do not hold the Bills in contempt. They even seem to respect Bills Fans quite a bit.

In fact, if the Bills can ever reach the playoffs, I think they will get a lot of support in NYC/L.I.

It is a freaking island... Can't we just put up a wall to the west? First we can lure more there!

Would you mind clearly explaining this? Sorry, but I don't know what you are talking about.

When I lived in WNY people couldn't refer to The City without a sneer. They were under the impression that The City is the favored child while WNY gets sloppy seconds. They feel all their tax dollars are sucked away and spent on Ronald Reagan's "welfare queens" etc. who they feel comprise the bulk of NYC population. The rest are muggers, gang-bangers, Wall Street types, and in the middle are the cops and firemen holding things together. Very simplistic, but WNY is pretty parochial in its thoughts, words and deeds.

It's the same as here in Washington State, where the "red" side of the state (east of the Cascades) constantly complains and talks of succession. My response is, as long as you don't like roads and schools and stuff, go right ahead. Because once you secede, none of my tax dollars will be coming your way, and since you're underpopulated, underemployed and underfunded, you'll have to learn how to do it your own self on what you got, which ain't much. We got all the people, so we got all the money, and you may not like what you got but it's a whole lot more than you'll get on your own.

If there was ever any doubt that WNY needs NYC more than the reverse, 911 should have dispelled that.

So basically, it's the feeling that WNY is held hostage by the city, because of the co-dependence that exists. Albany sends a lot of $$ to NYC, but if NYC goes under the rest of the state will look like....Wyoming.
