Bishop Hedd Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 .....and good riddance. The porcine Reynolds represented a very badly gerrymandered district spreading from Amherst to Rachacha, and during Republican rule was the number three man in congress as head of the NRCC, but after the Foley scandal (where he was running for his life against Jack Davis) and the takeover of congress by democrats Reynolds' stock plummeted. Some say, and I'm one of them, that it was the divine intervention of the October Surprise of 10/13/06 that saved his pork butt last time, but he had no chance of winning this time around what with the NRCC accounting scandal breathing down his neck. The tidal wave is beginning and it is only Spring. http://thehill.com/leading-the-news/reynol...2008-03-20.html
Lakesider Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Gotta agree...Reynolds was a snake oil salesman. I had some dealings with him prior to my retirement, and he was the quintessential politician; glad hand you to death until someone with more clout came upon the scene. My problem is that I don't for a minute believe that whomever succeeds TR will be any different. Promises, poking holes in the incumbent and grand rhetoric seem to wear well during the run up to the election; however, once the di is cast, the "same old same old" invariably appears. The next guy will soon be as bad as the last guy in terms of empty promises, scandals, and general focus on maintaining his congressional seat at the expense of taking truly independent positions and making hard decisions. "If you always do what you always did, you'll always get what you always got."

Just keeping the chance for a money grab alive.

"If you always do what you always did, you'll always get what you always got." Well there seem to be two candidates running so far: one a crusty curmudgeon anti-NAFTA industrialist who was once a Republican until Dick Cheney punked him off at Kleinhans a few years back http://jackdavis.org/new/. Then there's the 29 year old Democratic Party poster boy http://www.powersforcongress.com/ It's not my district (it's my folks district however) but I once again think Jack Davis would kiss nobody's ass. While Reynolds was the ultimate scuzzball republican self promoter I don't think Jack Davis gives a shite about any of that. It will be interesting to see who the republicans puke up in the next month or so to put on the sacrificial alter against either Davis or Powers

Just keeping the chance for a money grab alive. That's been mentioned around these parts too. See Trent Lott for example.

It's sad and amusing that you feel a change of parties will help. Democrat or Republican, this state seems destined to be run poorly.

Democrat or Republican, this state seems destined to be run poorly. This is more of a national political story than anything State government oriented. I supported Davis a former Republican the last two times around because he was anti-NAFTA, a trade agreement that has decimated this Great Lakes region. Unlike McCain, who thinks things with NAFTA are just peachy, or Pro NAFTA poster girl Hillary, or lip service Obama, Davis has spoken out against NAFTA every chance he has gotten, getting him thrown out of Kleinhans music Hall by Slim Cheney's brownshirts. http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Jack_Davis Anyways, even old piggy Reynold's organization the NRCC say the Spitzer ordeal won't hurt congressional Dems running in NYS in '08. http://www.nrcc.org/news/view_article.asp?ID=1448
Alaska Darin Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Anyways, even old piggy Reynold's organization the NRCC say the Spitzer ordeal won't hurt congressional Dems running in NYS in '08. Why would it? NYers are too stupid to actually change anything.
VABills Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Why would it? NYers are too stupid to actually change anything. NYS motto now is "The blind leading the blind"
Bishop Hedd Posted March 21, 2008 Author Posted March 21, 2008 NYS motto now is "The blind leading the blind" No argument. When I was down on the rez (that's rt 438 for you VA) having my smile brightened this morning, I came across these headlines in the waiting room: http://www.buffalonews.com/home/story/303541.html http://www.buffalonews.com/home/story/303599.html
