Spun
Oh, come on, you really think they should have been in last year's championship game? If you are asking me if I think or thought the Buckeyes were the second best team, the answer is no to both. I was shocked to see how all those teams ahead of the Buckeyes collapsed in the last few weeks of the season. But when these supposed deserving teams lose games to mediocre opponents, what else are the pollsters supposed to do? USC lost at home to Stanford and West Virginia lost to who was it Pitt in a game that would have guartanteed their spot in the BCS. C'mon... I was in a public library with a timed computer (annoying) and have been busy of late. Anyhow, somebody had to be the sacrificial lamb in the most recent BCS Championship. For those that also would have been handled by LSU, be happy that it wasn't your team (Louisville, Rutgers). It is possible that the number one and two teams either played in the SEC Championship or within the SEC regular season. It isn't popular in BCS circles to match conference opponents again especially when ratings dictate profits and sales. But another SEC matchup may have been a better game and more reflective of a one vs. two than the LSU / OSU game. SEC football is very solid top to bottom, right now. Momentum will shift again. I can't see Notre Dame and Nebraska remaining out of the big picture for long. Michigan will regain form. Texas will reload. Miami and FSU have too much talent in FLA not to rise again. Penn St. is an enigma. I keep waiting for the Nittanys to go elite but they only seem to only go so high. As for USC, they have some choking issues over the last few years starting with the BCS loss to Texas (should have had Bush AND LenDale White in the backfield on last USC offensive play). A loss to UCLA (13 - 9 in 2006) and last years losses (Oregon and Stanford) combine to tarnish the gloss of the Trojans. Should all of that be held against the Trojans in judging their worthiness of the BCS Championship? I don't think so but I believe that it raised doubts on how good USC was last season. As for LSU, maybe they were head and shoulders above everybody. It is funny how a few days after the season is over I have had my fill of football but give it a couple of months and I am all motored up again!
