They were talking to him about being a mentor to the younger players, Adam Carriker, possible draft pick DE Chris Long and others, and Glover was real cool about it and is more than up to the task. At one point the conversation turned, by Glover's own doing, about a player being suspected of lacking motivation and what Glover stated about it I found intriguging. He mentioned that when a player isn't always a high motor guy it can still work out for a team to take this type of player if they already have other highly motivated player(s) on the team to raise the intensity level for such a player. He referenced when the Ravens drafted DT Haloti Ngata, who has been accused in the past of taking plays off, and pairing him with a very highly inspiring Ray Lewis. The results were positive and he also said that DTs are more inclined to fall into this type of category.

I thought that this was pretty interesting and at first it raised an immediate question to me. I began to wonder if we had this type of player (Ray Lewis) currently on our roster. At first I had to say no but then it just occurred to me that this might be what the Bills were looking for when they went after Stroud. He's not only manning the DT position, which is a position of suspicion for lack of motivation, but he's a firey type of player in the mode of a Ray Lewis. He also feels like he has something to prove, which not only causes his motivation but also fuels it.

I was a big proponent for DT Shaun Rogers but after hearing Glover's interview I am now very happy that we didn't sign him. He appears to be the complete opposite of what this position and what type of player this franchise needs very badly.

I was only bringing up Glover's interview because I was wondering if the Bills even had this type of leader but during this post it came to me like a ton of bricks about Stroud. It was kind of like that mission statement that Jerry Maguire started writing and couldn't turn off the idea or concept of it because it was an instant revelation for him.

While I'm not a big fan of his, and didn't agree with the decision to draft him. It might explain why we took Whitner over Ngata or Bunkley. I wont forget the miami game, when Whitner was going around to players on defense, trying to pump them up and keep them in the game. Hopefully with some more solid additions on that side of the ball, he isn't forced to play so much in the box, and can free range a bit more in order to make plays. As far as Stroud being a leader. One sure hopes. It might get McCargo to get over that hump from potential to a pretty good player, as well as any other we bring in.

Dont forget after Chad Johnsons injury after whitners hit he said that him and johnson were trash talking beofre that play and he made him pay. Whitner is a hell of a leader, with more help he'll be a hell of a playmaker too
