buckeyemike Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 Nation unshaken by death of plain-looking girl. It's an old article (over 10 years old), but it rings more true than ever today. It was written after JonBenet was murdered (believe it or not, she'd be sixteen today). I've heard it called the Missing Pretty Girl Syndrome. Jon Stewart quipped that the coverage regarding Anna Nicole's death merited it only slightly less important than the 9/11 attacks. And I've seen that some of the female VT victims are, shall we say, photogenic. I guess in our society, being beautiful trumps all. Look at that no-talent hack Sanjaya or whatever his name is.
Chilly Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 I don't know that the VT shootings coverage is due to victims being photogenic. Colleges and Universities are supposed to be safe havens for kids whose parents just sent them away can live. That hits home with many, many people, and thus will get a lot of coverage. In many other cases that is quite true though.
