DrDawkinstein Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 dont bother. it was surprisingly short-sighted and stupid, even for Mel and Mort. and i expected stupid. they wanted to talk more about the Bills not "wanting to pay players" and question Ralph Wilson than talk about addressing needs. completely asinine. they talked more about how we were "supposed" to re-sign Nate and Willis, because that is "what you do"... what a complete disappointment in reporting/analysis. even Darren Woodsen sounded dumb.
Astrobot Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 Implied--no, directly said-- Wilson must be getting team ready to sell. Hairdo said that we'd eschew Marshawn Lynch for Patrick Willis in Round 1 and grab a Thurman Thomas type--Pittman-- in RD#2.
jri111 Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 dont bother. it was surprisingly short-sighted and stupid, even for Mel and Mort. and i expected stupid. they wanted to talk more about the Bills not "wanting to pay players" and question Ralph Wilson than talk about addressing needs. completely asinine. Yeah, wow just shredded them. All they talked about was how we lost Clements, Fletcher, spikes and Mcgahee... Kiper even said that we could have the first round pick in next year's draft... well so much for anyhting educated coming out of ESPN Kiper did say he thinks Willis in round one and Pittman in round two which i think is the most realistic senario to date
gflande1 Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 They beat up the Bills for not retaining players, never said why they didnt try retaining those players. Feel that we should go with Willis in the first, and Pittman in the second. If that happens, I would feel pretty happy about this offseason. Especailly if we can get our CB and another LB with the two thirds.
Golden Wheels Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 I saw it. It was incredibly negaative. Mortenson, Kiper, et al. ripped the Bills and said they were looking like a team "ready to pick first in next year's draft." Mortenson also said all the cost-cutting moves were rumored to be "Ralph Wilson getting ready to sell the team." They felt that losing Clements, McGahee, Fletcher, and Spikes from the roster sent the message that they won't pay their best players big money and their subtraction from the roster left "voids too big to fill." Like gflande1 said, they never gave other reasons why these players were not retained. Wow. They said nothing about the player they got in trade from the Eagles or what they could do with the third round pick they got from the Ravens. While they did praise Losman, Evans, and Schoebel, they made it sound like the Bills might as well not show up this year even if they took a LB like Patrick Willis in the first round.
bluv Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 They pointed out how bad we were at stopping the run and running the ball and then they point out how bad we needed to keep Willis and how he is such a special player; a security blanket for JP (I don't diss him like most do but come on!). And how we don't like to pay our young players such as Nate; Nate played like you know what the year before when we franchsied him when he wanted to be paid as he was this year. While he played better in the 2nd half of this year there is no way we should match the 49ers offer. Or resign Fletcher to a contract that the Redskins offered him. The only move I question is Spikes but but at least we got a potential starter at DT in Walker who has been durable. At least Mel Kiper, while he bashed us as well and made us seem like the worse team in the NFL, if we draft Willis in the 1st and Pittman in the 2nd I think we'd shock the NFL next year as our young unknown playersform last year draft will step up and start kicking butt!

I am convinced that these people don't know what they are talking about. They are the same ones who picked Detroit to win their division, the patriots to decline, and the Dolphins to go to the superbowl last year. We all know how those picks panned out.
DrDawkinstein Posted April 8, 2007 Author Posted April 8, 2007 didnt Mort/Mel say, after last year's draft, that he expected to see the Bills picking top spot in this year's draft going for Brady Quinn? and that the Dolphins were going to the Super Bowl?? stupid
ABF11 Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 Funny how we all tried to post on this at the same time. As I said in my post, I think it really comes down to Mort and his crush on Tom Donahoe. He has had it in for the Bills ever since they fired him. Forget what these idiots have to say. ganesh Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 TD must have been in the room next door and applying the pressure... Didn't someone mention to him that they just spent 75M on the OL (as they exaggerated it the day after FA started)........The bottom line is these guys use math to make up their argument....The Bills decided to invest their money on the OL rather than paying Clements and Fletcher...They traded McGahee and Spikes because those guys wanted to be traded out.....What is wrong with that.... The Bills off season has been a B. They lost some talent, traded away some talent that didn't want to be here and paid for some talent. Now the draft remains, which will decide which way this team will be going.... I like Kipers pick of Patrick Willis and Pittman.....At least he was not like the guy from Nfl Network/Sirrus radio who cheap shoted them saying that Willis would be ideal, but the bills don't want to pay for 12th pick and will trade down and pick Polucznski. These guys blasted the bills for not willing to spend to re-sign players before FA. The same guys blasted the bills for putting some much money in the FA market. The same guys are not blasting the bills for not doing the right thing in FA.... Guys you cannot have the cake and eat it too.....
FloridaSnow Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 I'm sure if we were based in a big market, they would be talking us up though... Those L.A. Bills should surprise everyone this year. I think a lot of it has to do with building the hyupe for the teams the teams who have the larger audiences and that they plan on broadcasting.
ABF11 Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 I think TD and Mort are secretly married. The patriots have made a career out of letting guys like Milloy, ty law, now dillon, leave the team. But they are geniuses. The Bills are idiots no matter what they do. Let's see what happens on the field. TD must have been in the room next door and applying the pressure... That was my take; they never mentioned who we picked up, how we could get better or what player we should draft; they just kept saying that this team has SO many holes to fill. They never mentioned that by changing defensive philosophies, Spikes and Clemens is not as much of a loss as it seems. I mean Detroit changed to a cover 2 scheme and let Bly go for he didn't fit their scheme and he is probably as good or better man-to-man cover corner than Nate was.
Captain Hindsight Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 So espn thinks were going to be worse than the Miami, Cleveland, houstan, oakland, Arizona...... ya when we pick #1 overla in the next ten years espn will finally have said something right. They say were gonna pick first every year. what a bunch of losers. A fricken monkey could do better analysis. happy Easter
bluv Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 Funny how we all tried to post on this at the same time.As I said in my post, I think it really comes down to Mort and his crush on Tom Donahoe. At least wait until after the draft and June 1st cuts before you start preaching about how many holes we have to fill!
Lurker Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 ... well so much for anyhting educated coming out of ESPN They've been on autopilot for years...why bother to be good when they know people will watch anything they put on, regardless of quality.
Nanker Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 It's surprising they let Mortenson talk without using Lavoris fiirst to get the stench of Donnaho's dong off his breath. Kiper still has the shocked look etched on his puss from Marv's taking Whitner at 8 last year. Experts don't like to be shut out of the "know" and even Boomer last year didn't get a cab ride. Screw 'em all. I don't think their phones are ringing off the hook with calls from NFL owner who want them to be General Managers - nor to give them advice on who they ought to pick. Mortenson will just lead the parade of crow eaters on judgement day. By the way, his buddy Tom's still out of work - nes pas?
OGTEleven Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 This thing was brutal. I know we can be paranoid as Bills fans but there simply cannot be a question that Mortenson holds a grudge against the Bills. He is incredibly unprofessional. The garbage about "they're not just losing a running back but a very special player" made me laugh out loud. To me, if we had unlimited dollars we should have retained Nate. I understand why we didn't. I like Spikes, and to a degree Fletcher but totally understand why they're gone. Last year and this year are the first time in a long time that the Bills have developed a plan and stuck to it. That is a good thing, not a bad thing. In 5 years of TD our "plan" seemed to change monthly. They drafted for need last year and will again this year. TD drafted for glamour (and maybe for Mort). The only question is what does management see as our need. My bet is that we get Turner if the price is right (2nd rounder or thereabouts) and that Willis is our target in the first. Marv and DJ have stated that we need an attacking LB.
unpaid_bills34 Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 it was negative, but right to an extent. The Bills do not pay their players. We bring in FA and pay them more than the guys who are here and produced. I do agree we should not have kept McGahee he was going to leave anyway next year. Clements did get way overpaid but we could have locked him up a couple years ago. Spikes and Fletcher should have been retained also. Fact is we are re-building again, the national media thinks are team is a joke. They will not get any respect until they start having winning seasons and making the playoffs - something we have not done for awhile. Until all the "negative" talk will continue. I actually like to FA additions so far and am hoping for a great draft, but you do have to admit we did lose alot in FA bottom line we did not pay the players - they did fail to mention Willis problems, Takeo's inj, Fletch age. Clements really nothing to say other than does not get the Int's #'s, etc. although i always felt he was one of the top shutdown CB - so why not pay him are we going to find anyone better or in the draft and eventually have to pay them or more???
DrDawkinstein Posted April 8, 2007 Author Posted April 8, 2007 ive been watching these "on the clocks" too. and i HATE having to play into the Crybaby-Bill's-Fan Stereotype, but this was the most negative segment theyve had so far.
