We've been arguing back and forth about who should be the workhorse in the Bills backfield next year, but what about the guy helping to open the holes in front of him? We have Cieslak, but his natural position is at TE. We should've went after Griffith (who signed with the Raiders) in my opinion, but never made a move. We need a good FB that can get our back to the second level of the defense and catch a few passes out of the backfield. I don't really see Cieslak as a long-term answer. Who would you all like to see us pick up through the draft or FA?

There is lots of discussion over Jim Leonard, the FB from Rutgers.

He'd look great, in Buffalo blue, IMO. Particularly if we don't sign Turner.

The guy's name is Brian Leonard and he is making the switch to RB for his jump to the NFL

He will do WHATEVER it takes to make it in the NFL. He's that kind of guy. If the Bills pick him as a RB, he's the FB, trust me.

Fullback is a pretty easy position to fill without wasting picks. However if we get turner I wouldnt mind taking brian leonard. He would make a nice change of pace/fullback/receiving back. Basically an everydown kind of guy who's not great at any one thing but a good all around player. A Cross between alstott and larry centers.

I've been thinking lately that regardless if we trade for turner I would still like to get another back in the draft. Right now my main choice would be Lorenzo Booker. We'd then have a real nice backfield. Booker a true home run threat could be a legit challenge to atrain for the #2 role and also a tremendous receiving option as well as a guy who can take it the distance with the ball in his hands.

I've been checking into it a little and came up with a couple of guys. Jason Snelling from UVA is the first. He'd be a decent option out of the backfield as a receiving option and he is also an option for some carries every game being that he played RB at UVA. Not sure how great of a blocker the guy is though. Second is Nate Ilaoa from Hawaii. He's short in stature, but a beast at 5'8" 248 lbs. He actually has pretty good speed for his size and is surprisingly agile. I remember catching a couple of late night games on espn this past year watching him play for Hawaii. He runs like a tank, breaking tackles all over the place, and seemed to have good hands also. Thing is, he was Hawaii's RB and switching to FB would be a change he would need to get used to. He would definitely have a lower center of gravity for getting under the other guy's pads when blocking. I also have no doubt that the guy could take on LB's with no problem because he runs with power. Just a couple of possibilities.

Not exactly. You don't find a Mack Strong, Sam Gash, or Tony Richardson holding up a sign saying, "Will block whoever, catch passes consistently, and take a few carries a game for food," on every street corner.

Mack strong- UDFA

Sam Gash- 8th rd 1992

Tony Richardson- UDFA

Larry Centers- 5th rd pick

Once again you can find fb's later on without wasting high picks on them. It's not a hard position to fill. Not saying every fb will become one of these guys but for the most part the fullback position is not an impact player

Heck, I wouldn't spend anything higher than a 6th on a FB either. Just scoping out the landscape of who our options are and who everyone would like to see.

He'll play whatever position the team that drafts him asks him to play.

Perhaps that would give us the option or running the option but then wed need an option qb, which screws us if we have to option to an audible.

Maybe we should bring in Marcus Vick.

The latest Yahoo mock by John Murphy has Leonard going in the 1st round!

I can't say that I believe it myself, but it looks like he might not alst that long.

I agree with your earlier post, I think the Bills offense would work better going without an FB and utilizing the speed of Evans, PP, and Parrish in a 3 WR set. I would go with a fullhouse backfield in goal line and short yardage situations by plugging in Cieslak at FB on those plays.

Particularly since we likely will need to get 3 RBs who are not on the roster right now, my sense is that you pick one up as a FA and get two in the draft one of whom should be an RB but a stocky type who can play HB or FB in a pinch.

Bad idea IMO. He's a FB not a RB. What could have been a great FB will just end up another Touchdown Tommy
