ChevyVanMiller Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 I've spent the better part of two years collecting Buffalo sports pennants for my rec room. Here are 3 teams whose pennants I now own that I never new existed before I began my quest. Enjoy! The Buffalo Norsemen of the upstart NAHL. Team played at the Tonawanda Sports Center for 2 years 1974-76. Guy Trottier was the most famous member of the team. Women's fastpitch softball Player/Coach Nan Harvey The hardest pennant to find of them all is the Toronto-Buffalo Royals of World Team Tennis. The team was in existence for just 1 year (1974) and split its home games between the Aud and Maple Leaf Garden. World Team Tennis History Team Tennis Logos
Chef Jim Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 I remember the WTT Buffalo Royals. I was 13 and very much into playing tennis. But I don't remember the Boston Lobsters
Typical TBD Guy Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 Interesting stuff. On a related note, anyone know whatever happened to the Buffalo Gamblers? Pro outdoor lacrosse team who disappeared on me after 1998. Won a championship in 97, I believe.
Spun Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 I remember all three. Norseman had former Sabre Steve Atkinson (# 19 for Sabres?). I believe the Royals were exclusively in Buffalo at first. It was around the same time as the Philadelphis Freedom (team and song). This was a hard sport to sell. Doubles and mixed doubles just didn't / doesn't draw. Breski's and women's softball was in it's infancy back then especially when compared to the present. To have any of their memoribilia is impressive. I have an original Braves pennant and a Cincinnati Swords pennant (Sabres farm team).
I 90 Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 I remember the WTT Buffalo Royals. I was 13 and very much into playing tennis. But I don't remember the Boston Lobsters We got shafted IIRC. Vitus Gerulatis was supposed to be the centerpiece of the Buffalo Toronto Royals but we ended up with doubles specialists.
