HopsGuy Posted October 13, 2004 Posted October 13, 2004 Here's one that I'm sure you'll remember: Back in '97 the AVP-led Bills make an amazing comeback against the soon-to-be world champion Broncos to send the game into overtime. Some genius decided that it was time for an Andre Reed end-around. I believe the play lost ~30 yards. The Broncos scored on their next possession. Ugggghhhhh!
KD in CA Posted October 13, 2004 Posted October 13, 2004 For sheer comic relief there's always Eddie Robinson getting faked out of his jock by Chad Pennington... 68252 Oh yeah....they made sure to show that one a few times on the jumbotron last weekend.
buckeyebrian Posted October 13, 2004 Posted October 13, 2004 Something posted yesterday has stuck with me. The description of that fourth down play against New England where apparrently EVERYONE on the offensive side of the ball missed their assignment was referred to as one of the worst plays in NFL history. All time bad plays! Humiliating. I guess I'd like to know if there has ever been another Bills play in its 45 year history that might compete with it. I've followed the Bills since 1960, have gone over some really awful years...and can't come up with one. Maybe there should be a plaque in Canton commemorating the play. It will rank with The Drive...Elway. The Catch...Willie Mays. The screw up...Buffalo Bills. 67925 For me- Super Bowl 28. Bills lead 13-6 at the half and get the opening kickoff of the second half. We have the ball near midfield. On a FIRST doen play Thurman fumbles and a Cowpuke DB recovers and zig-zags his way through the entire team to score a TD. From my seat on the 48 yd line about 17 rows back from the Bills bench I see the players looking at each other with "here we go again" looks on their faces. The game was 13-13 then but for all intents was over.
Greg de'Ville Posted October 13, 2004 Posted October 13, 2004 I don't recall the year, but I THINK the score was 14-0 Buffalo against the Cunningham-led Eagles in the regular season. We had scored a TD, and I think sacked Cunningham inside his own ten. Seconds left in the 1st half, Cunningham pulls off a 90+ yard TD to spark the Eagles into an eventual victory over the Bills. If I recall, a Buffalo DB went for the INT instead of knocking it down or tackling the receiver. If EVER there was a time for prevent D... Minotaur 68295 It was in '90 vs. the Iggles. Bills got out to a 24-0 lead in the FIRST QUARTER! Ol' Bud Man (Buddy Ryan) was as befuddled as could be. But the Iggles chipped away and Rockin' Randall's 95-yarder to Fred Barnett (thanks in part to bonehead coverage from J.D. Williams) made it a one-score game at the break. I remember that vividly because BRUUUUCE and friends had three good chances to bring RC down in the end zone for a safety but escaped. Bills still hung on to win 30-24. But they almost blew that one.
Greg de'Ville Posted October 13, 2004 Posted October 13, 2004 Boy does it ever hurt to read through all the "worst" plays on this list. The "Forward Lateral" is #1. Haven't had a sniff of the playoffs after that boneheaded play. Walt "Aw, Just Give It to 'Em" Coleman and his band of thieving zebras in that NE game was outright highway robbery. And that *-hole Fredo rubbed it in by having Vinatieri run in a meaningless deuce after that last Pat TD. I could have killed someone after that debacle.
