Obviously wide right & the Music City Miracle are at the top of the list.

But if you want to play "what-if",

I'd like to add the bomb to Ron Smith that lost us the 1980 playoff game with the Chargers.

That same weekend, the Raiders shocked the Browns at the end of the game in Cleveland.

If the Browns hold on to win,

I say we beat the Browns in Buffalo in the Championship game,

and go on to beat Philly in the Super Bowl. ;)

I remember that too, but I could have sworn it was against Cincy in 1989.  Did it happen against San Diego too?  What I remember about the SD game in 1980 was Fergy and his broken ankle.  Bills were clinging to a lead late in the game and an INT bounced off someone's chest (Charlie Romes?).  Naturally, Foutes throws a TD pass on the next play and Bills lose.

Dude , i remeber the ankle as well. I pretty sure the timeout fiasco was agaisnt the chargers, as I am almost positive i can see litlle Louie Piccone making the catch. Cincy game was the start of the Bickerin Bills, didnt burroughs or JD williams make some bone headed play there?

Speakin of Cincy, biggest thing I remeber is Kellys first year, gets game into overtime, and throws pick right over the middle on our first possesion around 20 yd line, game over. But lord, al least you could see he the fire in his belly

Wide Right was the most painful play in Bills history, but missing a 48-yard field goal isn't that high on the list of Blown Plays.  Your best kickers aren't more than 50-50 on that kick.  We shoulda been closer.

Ronnie Harmon, also, was just a screw-up by one guy.  It was a crucial play, but he's not the first or last guy to drop a touchdown pass.  Marcus Robinson did it this weekend for example.  He just happened to make up for it the next play.

I mean, I've dropped TD passes in pickup games too.  It happens.

Which brings us to this one and Homerun Throwback.  MCM was still a pretty impressive bit of playcalling, as painful as that is, and, of course, illegal anyway.  Which brings us to last Sunday.

FUBAR.  What can I say?

Forty SEVEN yards.

47.

Think my all time worst is in a playoff game agaisnt San diego, early 80's, 4th and 4. Bills call time out, come on the field and get first down with pass to Lou Piccone. Trailing by seven, bills continue drive in SD territory. But wait, there is a flag!(havent seen much of those lately lol). Guess what?, coming out of a TIME OUT, bills took to long to get play off. 4th and nine not completed, playoff game lost.

Think that is how I remember it, but twas early in my drinking career.

Perhaps it was against the Bengals (in 1984 or 1986). A Bills DB (Derrick Burroughs???) committed a PF in the EZ and the B'gals scored to get the lead.

The pass to Piccone, from Ferguson

IIRC was ruled incomplete or something like that.

The Browns were the #2 seed, the Bills were #3. The game would have been in Cleveland, not Buffalo. It's what I was hoping for, because the Browns would have had to go to San Diego the following week for the title game.

The Piccone play was in the 81 playoffs against the Bengals

(after we beat the Jets in the Wild Card round.)

Guess you all are right that it was the bengals. Like i said early in the drinkin career. Thanks for the correction fellas. Still hurts me to see that play in my mind, not i just have to change the memory from powder blue unis to white and orange

That was the 1988 AFC championship game, which would have been played in Buffalo had we not lost to lowly Tampa Bay on the road late in the season. Another key part of that game that sticks out in my mind is that Bruce absolutely OWNED Anthony Munoz early on, I believe getting a couple sacks in the first quarter. Then he suffered a thigh injury and he wasn't the same.

I have growing admiration for your powers of recollection. :w00t:

Don't forget the face mask penalty called against Bruce when all he did was grab the guy's jersey...

I can't see how any bad play can beat the "Music City Miracle." That was by far the worst play in Bills history (and it still makes me physically ill just thinking about it).

Never refer to this as a miracle. This will be forever known as the "Music City Mistake", because that what it was. The worst play would have to be the wide right field goal. If Norwood hits that FG, we win 3 of 4 Super Bowls.

How about Super Bowl XXV, 1st drive of 3rd quarter, Giants are in 3rd & 13 at the Bills 32. Hostetler throws short to Mark Ingram, who breaks about 18 tackles and gains 14 yards. The Giants go on to score on a 14 play drive that takes up nearly 10 minutes.

Why do they DO that? They're killing me, Whitey! THEY'RE KILLING ME!

I think if we win the first SB, then our mind set is totally different againist the Fore Skins the next year. We don't get into that mind set of "here we go again" when things start to go wrong. I think we can both agree that we would have been a different franchise had we hit that kick. :w00t:

I'm still going to argue that last week's 4th down call against New England was perhaps worse than the Music City Mistake or Wide Right. Perhaps not in importance, that goes without saying. But consider this:

Not only was the 4th down play a masterpiece of poor execution, but the whole concept of calling the play in the first place is pure, unfiltered insanity. A naked bootleg with a quarterback who is renowned for his inability to run or evade tacklers? On fourth down and three with the game (and perhaps the season) on the line? Against perhaps one of the most disciplined and prepared defenses in the league? With an offense that was clearly not prepared well to run the play? After calling a timeout to think about the best possible play that absolutely must succeed against the reigning World Champs? When it is clear they are going to blitz the crap out of your immobile QB?

It may not have been the worst play in Bills history, but I'm betting it's probably the worst play call. And the execution of that play keeps reminding me of the scene from "Stripes" when John Larroquette turns to see his unit rambling down the training course like a bunch of crazed lunatics.

I can't believe we are talking about bad history. I would think we would want to cheer ourselves up.

But since we're all making ourselves miserable, the Music City one is #1 on my list.

Others would include the "Just give it to them" play against the Patriots, and the entire Dolphins game in the playoffs in '98. I've haven't seen that game since it aired live, but I was fuming after it was over. I thought the officiating SUCKED throughout the day, capped off by Andre getting tossed towards the end.

Another play that really sucked was Tasker getting tossed in his final NFL game in Green Bay. Talk about the wrong way to go out, and it's not like he had a history of being a hot-head.

I don't recall the year, but I THINK the score was 14-0 Buffalo against the Cunningham-led Eagles in the regular season. We had scored a TD, and I think sacked Cunningham inside his own ten. Seconds left in the 1st half, Cunningham pulls off a 90+ yard TD to spark the Eagles into an eventual victory over the Bills. If I recall, a Buffalo DB went for the INT instead of knocking it down or tackling the receiver. If EVER there was a time for prevent D...
