Does the signing of Kawika Mitchell take them out of the running for TKO? Or will they still need his services? Maybe the asking price from Marv and Co was too steep and they went in another direction?

What do you guys (and gals) think?

Yes and No.

Mitchell is a great pickup for the Jints. He's durable. He's in his prime, but he's ILB.

Watch for the Jints to bring in both.

Mitchell's an okay player and as Astro points out a MLB. Although there is talk that Spikes might go back to the M. The biggest knock on Mitchell is that he does his job on every down, but he won't make the big play or have you going, OMG that's awesome. He also never gets beat, just a nice player who plays the middle average and you can count on. But you need to have stars around him.

I just answered my own question. Pierce for Spikes!

Why? If they signed Pierce and Mitchell, then 3-4 defensive set is what you'll see there next year.

Pierce-Mitchell-Spikes-Short/Torbor would be a significant improvement in a 3-4.

Anyone have word that they're switching?

No, but I haven't seen where they signed Mitchel either. But if they did, it's the only thing that makes any sense with those two.

Just did some snooping, and "Tim Lewis, their defensive coordinator, was not to return for his fourth season as the Giants’ defensive coordinator in 2007, head coach Tom Coughlin announced today." He was replaced by Steve Spagnuolo, former Philly LB coach. Spagnuolo will run a 4-3 front with lots of blitzing, like when he coached Jeremiah Trotter. The Eagles had the most tackles for a loss under Spagnuolo.

Spagnuolo was the only coach to work under highly-respected defensive coordinator Jim Johnson during his entire tenure in Philadelphia. During six of his eight seasons with the Eagles, Spagnuolo coached a player who earned Pro Bowl honors.

Could still see the Giants get Spikes.

Well that blows that idea, since Lewis is actually a 3-4 specialist. Spagnuolo is now the DC. He is from the beagles, and a LB coach at that.

Just edited my post above--Spag will run a 4-3.
