Lurker Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 ??? You said the thing in another thread: DT is considered one the easiest positions to start as a rookie and make an impact, running back probably being the other. There's just not that much to know, what the heck are you talking about? DE, middle linebacker, safety and CB ALL are more difficalt to learn, at that is just on the defensive side of the ball. In addition, as a D tackle, you are generally going against the least skilled players on an NFL team, being interior linemen. I'd have to disagree. There's a great deal of technique in playing D-line that most fans don't seem to appreciate. DB's and MLB's on the other hand can fly to the ball and cover up a lot of their mistakes that way (defensive play calling doesn't exclusively have to be done by the MLB, BTW). I expect NYC Bill to chime in on your comments on O-linemen in 3..2..1...
Bob in STL Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Has anyone seen this guy dominate consistently in games? Is he worthy of the #12 spot? I never saw him play other than the highlight reels on NFL Network. He is a 3 Technique which the Bills seem to have an over abundance of. He looks like a great pick but everything I read about him lately says "upside" for the positives, and the negatives are "Not very tough, does not have a high motor & takes plays off". I am always a bit concerned when players tend to skyrocket this much after the season (reminds me too much of Mike Mamula or Erik Flowers). I would love someone to convince me otherwise considering the need on the DL. He is 20 years old? Many believe that he has lots of upside. Mamula and Flowers were workout warriors. Okoye is suposed ot be a football player. Who really knows? Ask again in 4 years.
The Jokeman Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 He is 20 years old? Many believe that he has lots of upside. Mamula and Flowers were workout warriors. Okoye is suposed ot be a football player. Who really knows? Ask again in 4 years. Of course he has an upside he is far from what would be his physical peek at only being 19. That said he will reach that peek in about four - seven years just in time for him to be an UFA and cash in with some team with more money then us. I say pass. If I had to make a comparison it be Eric Swann who also entered the league as a very young player (21 years old) and both had the promise of being potentially great D-lineman but as thing turned out Swann was retired by the time he was 31 and had 2 Pro Bowls to played in relative obscurity in Arizona for most of his career and nothing more to show. BTW he was the 6th overall pick of the 1991 draft. I still say he's off the board the time we draft have a sneaking suspicion he ends up in Miami but could also end up being taken with Atlanta's newly acquired pick being his NCAA coach is with the Falcons.
Oneonta Buffalo Fan Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Is he worthy of the #12 spot? Yes. He might be an ok player now but he's very young and he has so much potential.
Nanker Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 What's with this Okoye talk. Don't you know this board is evenly split between the Willis and Lynch factions? Get with the program. Our Draft this year will be a near-full disaster whatever player Marv takes. I think Okoye's the best chubby-looking rookie to come along since Bruce Smith. Thing is, he's not likely to be there at 12. Of course if Marv DID have the opportunity and DID take him at 12, he'd be the biggest reach in Draft History since, since, well since Whitner. There would be no such talk about the GM who 'found gold' by picking Okoye anywhere from the 3-11 spot though.
