In space no one can hear Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 for 12 bucks.... great deal and lots of great songs... you should check it out if you like the band link the made me do it.
the_franchise Posted March 17, 2007 Author Posted March 17, 2007 You must be a youngster who thinks rap is music. Good music stop being written in the mid 80s. A lot of younger guys I work with only think of Supertramp in terms of the song "it's raining again" which is total pop crap. That's like judging Valen Halen by "How do you if its love?" or Peter Gabriel by "Sledgehammer". Supertramp has a bunch of great stuff that borders on progressive rock. Songs like "School", "Fool Overture", "Rudy", "A Soap Box Opera"...all great stuff. Even some on the more commercial stuff on "Breakfast in America" is quality.... "Gone Hollywood"... that's a great song. Oh, and "Paris" is one of the best live records ever, up there with "Seconds Out" first off... good music still gets made, and its not rap but saddle creeks record lable... all great bands that dont care about crap other than making good music... and van halen was never good after DLR... when VH started singing about love they went downhill... but yeah not to be a music snob since music is one of the best parts of life outside of football, hockey, etc. pop music is horrible and will remain that way forever along with rap.. but the supertramp cd is pretty good, so dont snob it and check it out
the_franchise Posted March 17, 2007 Author Posted March 17, 2007 not against downloading music at all but, i only download bittorrrents until i know i like a cd, then go and buy it... i think a cd collection of burned cds isnt as nice to have as the real deal... but thats just me. on the other hand, torrents are the way to go for movies, software, and videos games if youve got the memory
pdh1 Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 but the supertramp cd is pretty good, so dont snob it and check it out Dude, I am a big fan an own every cd but their first one, till Roger Hodgson left. If you like their music you should check out his first solo album, "eye of the storm" Sound just like a Supertramp record, but with some longer songs. http://www.amazon.com/Eye-Storm-Roger-Hodg...2183&sr=1-2

The Dean Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 First a Supercrap thread. What's next, a Stynx thread? OK...NOW I'm being a dick.
A Pirate looks at 37 Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 for 12 bucks.... great deal and lots of great songs... you should check it out if you like the band Bought it for my wife last Christmas... pretty good CD, it was much better than listening to my son's "Nicklestaindslave" CD all the way to my in-laws house on Christmas day.

A Pirate looks at 37 Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 Now, THAT'S what I'm talking about! I can't take credit for that one... Props to RTDB for coming up with that, I just added my 2 cents to it.
pdh1 Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 First a Supercrap thread. What's next, a Stynx thread? OK...NOW I'm being a dick. Hey now, early Styx is pretty good, "Mr.Roboto", not so much. But come, "snow blind", "blue collar man". "crystal ball"...good stuff Its like Genesis. "insivible touch" is terrible. But earlier stuff the same is terrific, like "The Musical Box" or "Dance on a Volcano". You hear that and can't believe its the same band.
I 90 Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 Even some on the more commercial stuff on "Breakfast in America" is quality.... Was it the summer of '79 maybe that one was either Supertramp or Cheap Trick ? Oh, the shame, the shame...
pdh1 Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 Was it the summer of '79 maybe that one was either Supertramp or Cheap Trick ? Oh, the shame, the shame... 1979? I think the number one selling record that year was Led Zepplin's "in thru the outdoor"
JÂy RÛßeÒ Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 1979? I think the number one selling record that year was Led Zepplin's "in thru the outdoor" Yep late '79. I remember it playing when I was on my Senior HS trip to Spain early Spring of '80. I had backstate passes for their concert in Halifax but some nutjob called in saying he was going to execute them on stage and they cancelled the show. Something about how they thought they were bigger than Elvis or something.

I think they were supposed to play there in 1976, and just before the show, Rober Plant's child died. Show cancelled. Then in 1979, they were going to play in Rich Stadium. But Bonzo died. Show cancelled. Best we could do was Robert Plant's solo tour with Phil Collins on the drums.
DC Tom Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 Supertramp's Greatest Hits? What's on the B-side? (He jokes, to a crowd that's never seen a 45. )
BillsFanM.D. Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 Its like Genesis. "insivible touch" is terrible. But earlier stuff the same is terrific, like "The Musical Box" or "Dance on a Volcano". You hear that and can't believe its the same band. Honestly. Most on this board (not necessarily in this thread) think Phil Collins' career began w/ No Jacket Required. For the record my wife and I danced to 'Follow you, Follow me' at out wedding. That was a little pop cheese s/p Peter Gabriel but at least it was Genesis. Lamb lies down is classic. I concur (despite risk of getting flamed) that styx and supertramp have some validity.
X. Benedict Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 Supertramp's Greatest Hits? What's on the B-side?(He jokes, to a crowd that's never seen a 45. ) I was at a party yesterday and a fellow made the comment, "I wore the groves out of that one," and his son said, "Dad, your slang back then was so dorky." For those that remember vinyl.
