Coach Tuesday Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 http://www.profootballtalk.com/rumormill.htm McGAHEE DEAL: SEVEN YEARS, $40.12 MILLION We're told that the Ravens and running back Willis McGahee are very close to agreeing on a seven-year deal worth $40.12 million. As we previously explained, McGahee will receive $7.5 million to sign, an initial option bonus of $6 million, and a second option bonus of $1.5 million. The salaries are $595,000 in 2007, $605,000 in 2008, $620,000 in 2009, $3.6 million in 2010, $6.0 million in 2011, $6.5 million in 2012, and $7.2 million in 2013. Since McGahee was due to earn $2.155 million in 2007, the deal is essentially a six-year extension worth $37.965 million. If the Ravens cut McGahee before the back-end salaries kick in, he will earn a total of $20.42 million over four years. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
bartshan-83 Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 I'm not one to say that money is the only motivator for pro athletes, but I think the last serious effort we will ever see Willis McGahee make is getting to the bank by 5 to cash that bonus.

Explain to me how a guy as obviously smart, extremely successful, highly respected, and proven to know running backs in Ozzie Newsome trades three draft picks and spends 40 mil on a bad guy with bad habits and bad vision and bad blocking and bad receiving and won't try.
BEAST MODE BABY! Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 Maybe a change on environment will be good for Willis. He could blossom. On the other hand, McNair could hurt his sternum again with a failed blitz pickup.

Because WM is a good back.

Perhaps he feels the leadership on his team will be more effective at keeping Willis in line. It's not like the guy is without talent. He's just missing the toolbox.

Kelly the Dog Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 he ditched Priest Holmes... had no idea what was in his own backfield. Well, that was an anomaly. Newsome had to decide between keeping a starting LB and a back-up RB. He'd had Holmes for four years already after signing him an an UDFA and while he played pretty good, he'd already had a knee injury in college and one in the pros. Holmes wasn't even a full-time starter in college. And the Ravens had a power running game. In retrospect, sure Newsome didn't know how good Holmes could become, no one did, but it wasn't like a total bonehead move. He wanted to keep him.

Jamal Lewis also was pretty productive for the Ravens.
Ramius Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 Lets see. If i do the math, willis will probably pocket that 7.5 mil SB, but with that 6 mil option bonus, i bet 2 mil goes to each baby momma.
