BuffaloBud Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 5. I think I know they spent a stratospheric $75 million on three non-Pro Bowl offensive linemen, but at the end of the day, the Bills now have a rising-star left tackle in Jason Peters, and two above-average guys in Langston Walker and Dockery, both of whom have quick feet and good power. Offensive line coach Jim McNally was a strong advocate of signing them both, with former McNally pupil Jason Whittle thrown in for the NFL minimum as insurance. "Could we be wrong about [Dockery and Walker]? Yeah, we could,'' coach Dick Jauron said. "But they're big men with long arms and good feet who play hard. Looking at our team, and our young quarterback [J.P. Losman], we knew we had to protect him, and the best way to do that is to improve an area of our team that needed upgrading.''

A rising star and two above average guys really sounds great after years of a retread and two never has beens. I believe (OK, dammit I really really really hope ) that this group will solidify the offense and allow the Bills to use their entire playbook. We'll see more designed rollouts. We'll see more screens. We'll see runs left, middle and right. IF JP can master the short game and quicken his reads offensively we should be in good shape.

Mr. King uses #s to make it sound "stratospheric"....The Bills are in no-win situation...If the Bills had stayed pat, they would have been chastised for not improving their line in FA and if they had picked up so no-names, then they would have been called cheap and if they go out and sign the top FA available on the 1st day, then they are called for over-spending.......Maan...this never stops..... What Mr. King fails to say that not all that 75M is due this year as many other teams pay out, but they are straddled down the line.... Of course Peter Moonlights on the Pats as he always does for signing up a 35 year old TE and a pretty good LB who played in an awesome defense....If I compare the 1st 3 years of both nate Clements and Adalius Thomas contracts, they both will be getting close to same money.....

But that is Ralph's fault for whining to anyone who would listen about his money woes. He put himself in an untenable position.
I 90 Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 5. I think I know they spent a stratospheric $75 million on three non-Pro Bowl offensive linemen, Tell Pete that everyone is going to spend "stratospheric" amounts for non pro bowl players at their need positions (Wesley Welker and Drew Bennett ? Good God...). An increased cap, a lot of teams with space and not much talent to spend it on left me prepared to be underwhelmed by the Bills this spring -- the opposite occured.
