/dev/null
My parents got a desktop with Vista and a new printer. New printer wouldn't work with Vista Store they bought it from had a 14 day return policy. And on the 14th day they packed it back up and went back to Windows ME

/dev/null
Windows ME??? I hope you kept the Vista discs. my parents are computer illiterate. they've had the WinME computer for years and IMO the change was too confusing for them after they took the Vista computer back they said they still want a new computer but are probably going to wait until I come home for christmas so i can set it up and show them how to use it
The Dean
I wouldn't switch to Vista yet (not at least until it's 1st or 2nd service pack), but from the little I've played with it, it will be fine, IMO. I think it will turn out to be a fairly irrelevant OS (like ME) but not a super sucky one. But, some companies aren't giving users a choice. Dell, for example won't sell XP machines anymore. Gateway, however, will. If the GF is stuck with it, don't despair too much. I recommend a few blogs that are right on top of the Vista issues: http://www.edbott.com/weblog http://securitygarden.blogspot.com/ http://temerc.blogspot.com/ http://msmvps.com/blogs/donna/ There are, of course, dozens more. I think Windows can do the same with Vista as Buffalo should do with MCGahee: File it!

Corrine
Seeing "home-town" folks here, I couldn't resist registering to say thank you for the link to Security Garden. That certainly was a nice way to warm up a brutally cold night in Rochester. Ed Bott is a favorite of mine as well. I particularly like his Windows Expertise blog that Dean linked. Ed also has his "Microsoft Report" blog at ZDNet, http://blogs.zdnet.com/Bott/ . Donna has also posted a lot of information on Vista in her other blog at http://dozleng.com/internetsecurity , including a couple tutorials. One in particular is on the Vista firewall. If you're looking for more information on Vista, there is a link to my Windows Vista Bookmarks blog from Security Garden. Thanks again.

Despite the personal cheap-shot from our Fearless Leader, I'm really a very nice fellow, Corrine. I read your blog on a regular basis...keep up the good work. Scott, tossing out uncalled for insults is MY job. I guess I'll need to start posting again to regain my position.
