The Jokeman Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 I just thought I'd make mention that DT Marcus Bell was cut by the Lions. He might be a good option for the Bills. As he has a history playing under Jauron in Detroit and had his finest season last year playing NT in the Tampa 2 playing under Ron Marenelli as he collected a career high 40 tackles and on the right side of 30 as going to be 28 in June.
ThePebble19 Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Why is everyone so high on getting a DT?...we just drafted two of them last year...I think Kyle Williams and McCargo will turn out nicely.

Because Tim Anderson is a waste of space, so we still need a 4th guy for the rotation and/or start at NT.

ThePebble19 Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 the run D was horrible, and it starts with the DT's and MLB in the Cover 2 system to stop the run I can understand that. However, McCargo was hurt for the majority of the year...We drafted this guy in the first round, and are paying him 1st round money...Shouldn't we give him a chance to show us what he can do before we jump off the ship?
billybob Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 as long as the guy doesn't have some sort of medical problem that might be a good signing.

They aren't jumping ship bringing in another DT. They know what they have with tripplett (their best DT) McCargo hopefully will improve this line, Anderson was signed cheap enough that he can be camp fodder without hurting the team, and Kyle Williams is still developing. The Bills like rotating the DT's and DE's so they need more then just a starter and a backup. Bringing in someone like Bell, or drafting Okoye will improve what they have and possibly push someone like Anderson out. The d-line was bad, and the DT's need to improve. Bringing in Bell is not going to push McCargo out since McCargo rotates with Triplett. Bell or Okoye would probably move Williams or Anderson out.
bills_fan Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 OMFG, I wanted them to sign him last year. I thought he'd be a perfect run stuffer. Why'd Detroit release him?

Speculation from http://lions.scout.com/2/623236.html is Bell was rumored to be the "rat" behind a grievance file against head coach Rod Marinelli during the team's off-season conditioning program.

Well then, he's the kind of "high character" guy Marv has been looking for!
The Jokeman Posted March 4, 2007 Author Posted March 4, 2007 Well then, he's the kind of "high character" guy Marv has been looking for! HA! I really think character is always up to interpretation. To me this isn't a big enough reason to pass on Bell.

I think this would be a really solid pickup for us. Would really allow us some flexibility in the draft. With Anderson likely gone and this being McCargo's first season (for all intents and purposes) I think we've got a need for two more DT's and not just one. I'd like to see Bell teamed with Tripplet with McCargo and Williams behind them on the depth chart and possibly a draft pick like Kareem Brown in the rotation.
