PromoTheRobot Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 If this is where the Bills are focusing as free agency approaches, we have more problems than we think. The man flat out cannot play. Yeas, but he and his brother make great pizza. Maybe Tim offered free food for all team meetings. How many players can offer that? PTR

IIRC, there are 3 pre-determined dollar figures, too, for folks like Anderson and other 3rd rounders and less. There are also so-called vet minimums. The Bills can match other (higher) offers if they choose to do so. There would be no compensation for someone else signing Anderson, unless after all is done, the Bills lose more FA's than they signed. And that depends (I think) on the judged value of who they might lose.

Tim Anderson Tendered Contract Nick Mendola - Monday, February 26, 2007 - 12:25 PM (WGR 550) - Sources tell WGR that the Bills will tender restricted free agent Tim Anderson a one-year contract worth $850,000. The defensive tackle was a third-round pick of the Bills in 2004, and has registered 74 tackles, one sack and four passes defended in 31 games with Buffalo in 2005 and 2006. Teams can still offer Anderson a contract. If the Bills decide not to match it, they'd receive a third-round pick as compensation. Thursday is the deadline to tender offers to restricted free agents. Still on the Bills list: Anthony Hargrove, Jabari Greer and Shaud Williams. If no offer is made, the players become unrestricted free agents. Keep it locked at WGR Sports Radio 550 for any Bills updates. Return To WGR 550 Home Page » this is what i read so it says we get a 3rd round pick if he signs elsewhere?
DrDawkinstein Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 RFA ANSWER: I noticed some Bills fans were discussing Colts RFA OL Jake Scott, who if given a low tender ($850K) by the Colts would require just a 5th round pick as compensation if signed away from Indy with an offer sheet. But the Bills don't have a fifth round pick, so what would happen. I've found out that what would happen is Buffalo would be out of luck. If you don't have the proper draft pick as compensation you can't sign the player to an offer sheet. A team's only option is do try to negotiate a sign and trade deal, where the original club signs the player to a contract for the purpose of trading him and then the team to which that player is traded offers whatever compensation is agreed upon. So that would prevent Buffalo from going after San Diego RB Michael Turner who until we hear otherwise would require 5th round pick compensation. However, I'd be shocked if the Chargers don't put a first round tender on him ($1.85M). San Diego is reportedly shopping him, but I doubt they want another running back in return. They likely want draft picks.
stuckincincy Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 this is what i read so it says we get a 3rd round pick if he signs elsewhere? Dunno...is he a restricted FA? I'm certainly not sure... If he is, yes, a bidder has to give up the pick. That was what kept the B'gals wr Kelley Washington from being considered - he could be bought, at the added cost of giving up a 3rd round choice.
RuntheDamnBall Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 I keep seeing the word 'tendered' and referring mentally to last season, when wrassler Tim was tenderized.
DrDawkinstein Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 with that tender, a team would have to give us a 5th round pick in order to sign Anderson away from us.
nichebiche Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 with that tender, a team would have to give us a 5th round pick in order to sign Anderson away from us. no, because he was given the minimum tender, the compensation for him is the round he was drafted. if you read the example from Chris Brown's blog, Jake Scott was a 5th round pick, so if he were signed after receiving the minimum tender, Indy would receive a 5th round pick from the team that signs him. and to s.i.c., yes Anderson is a RFA. Washington is unrestricted.

nichebiche Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 this is why the idea of signing OG Ryan Lilja from Indy is appealing, even if he is given the minimum tender. he was undrafted, so signing him to a deal that the Colts decide not to match means not giving up any draft picks.
