FREE AGENCY: The Ravens did not use the franchise tag on outside linebacker/end Adalius Thomas because they were just $3 million under the salary cap.

 

The tag would have cost the Ravens $7.2 million.

 

"That was not an 11th-hour decision," Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome said.

 

Thomas would be the kind of playmaker the Bengals desperately need on defense, but his stats might have been inflated in the Ravens' scheme because he often had freelance opportunities as the team's designated "runner."

 

Asked if he would like to re-sign Thomas, Newsome said: "We don't know. From what I'm hearing the market is, there is a lot of money out there."."...
