Steven in MD Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 But the Bills had the toughest schedule in the NFL last season. They played the top 5 teams in the league based on draft order (Pats twice). So 6 of 16 games (6 of 9 loses) came against the best teams in the league. 1 Oakland Raiders 2-14 .555 2 Detroit Lions 3-13 .523 3 Cleveland Browns# 4-12 .535 4 Tampa Bay Buccaneers# 4-12 .535 5 Arizona Cardinals 5-11 .500 6 Washington Redskins 5-11 .512 7 Minnesota Vikings 6-10 .488 8 Houston Texans 6-10 .504 9 Miami Dolphins 6-10 .543 10 Atlanta Falcons 7-9 .457 11 San Francisco 49ers 7-9 .500 12 Buffalo Bills 7-9 .574 13 St. Louis Rams 8-8 .465 14 Carolina Panthers 8-8 .473 15 Pittsburgh Steelers 8-8 .496 16 Green Bay Packers 8-8 .500 17 Jacksonville Jaguars 8-8 .531 18 Cincinnati Bengals 8-8 .535 19 Tennessee Titans 8-8 .570 20 New York Giants 8-8 .520 21 Denver Broncos 9-7 .531 22 Dallas Cowboys 9-7 .457 23 Kansas City Chiefs 9-7 .492 24 New England Patriots (from Seattle) 9-7 .453 25 New York Jets 10-6 .469 26 Philadelphia Eagles 10-6 .477 27 New Orleans Saints 10-6 .461 28 New England Patriots 12-4 .496 29 Baltimore Ravens 13-3 .461 30 San Diego Chargers 14-2 .457 31 Chicago Bears 13-3 .430 32 Indianapolis Colts 12-4 .500

stuckincincy Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 This is after the fact. They didn't have on paper, a tough one before the season started. But the gaudy regular season records of SD and CHI, plus the surprising records of BAL, NYJ, and TEN, vaulted them up after the season was over.
BUFFALOTONE Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 ....and we lost to the lions. That speaks volumes.
RuntheDamnBall Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 Amazing how many 8-8 teams there were. Yes, we did lose to the Lions, but if we hadn't grown after that I'd be more worried. Plus, Villarial is gone and that counts for something.
The Big Cat Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 And next years is even harder IMO. not a chance. I think this year Buffalo faced teams who won because of their defenses- Chi, Bal, MIA (defense-not meathead- was the reason for ANY success they had last year), and the Colts (that's right). And those teams are harder to beat IMHO. Whenever you face an opponent who is strong defensively, the game becomes a TOP struggle and the team that wears down the opponent's defense first generally wins. This style of play demands discipline and consistency and the fact that our young team in a new system was still competitive in this arena last year makes me very optimistic for next year. The way it looks now, we're not going to have as many of those games next year, but you never know what the offseason will bring to us and our opponents.
Nanker Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 Let's not P and Moan about strength of schedule. It's time for The Bills to win games - against everybody. Let me put it this way. If The Bills and The Pats had IDENTICAL schedules for two years running, The Bills would have a tougher list of opponents based on SOS if we have IDENTICAL records - except that they beat us twice each year. Oh poor us! Winning fixes everything. I'd tired of losing. Way tired.
JimBob2232 Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 For the last time...YOU CANT PREDICT NEXT YEARS STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE!!!!!!! Ow. my voice. This year, we were thinking our schedule was EASY. The Jets, Titans, Packers, Ravens, Chargers and Bears were all much better than we thought they would be. You have no idea how next season will play out. Last year at this time, teams were looking at a schedule with the Steelers, Dolphins, Panthers and Redskins thinking their schedules were VERY difficult. Teams scheduled to play the Titans, Jets, Saints and Eagles were majorly disappointed. There is no rational reason to expect our schedule to be difficult next year. Does it look that way on paper? Perhaps. But in todays NFL you know teams that you expect to go 13-3 will finish 6-10, and vice versa.
