vegas55 Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 When will the whining of Hall of Shame owner Ralph Wilson ever stop. Look, there's two ways a business can be profitable; it can operate at a profit every year or the value of the business can appreciate ( or both) A simple example is a rental home, where it is not uncomon at all for the owner to incur more expenses each year than is received in rental income; as long as the value of the home keeps increasing, your ahead of the game. You won't find many people complaining, in LA for example, that bought their rental house for 200 grand years ago, rented at a loss every year, but have seen the house sky rocket in value, to say $750,000. Now Ralph paid $100,000.00 for this franchise, it has appreciated in price to 700 million, but he also insists on showing a substantial profit each and every year. The 700 million dollar profit just isnt enough. The kicker is that he has run this organization horribly. From the time of the AFL/NFL merger, the team was a laughing stock, so bad that Jim Kelly took one look and bolted to the USFL (read his book) Then Ralph stumbles onto Bill Polian, who finally builds a consistent winner and he fires him. Lucky Ralph, he inherits Butler and AJ smith - then fires them (over money) These guys go on to build powerhouse franchies while the Bills sink into mediocrity (again) Along the way, the great man Wilson is sanctioned by his fellow owners for his attempt to screw Wade Phillips out of $750,000.00. All we currently hear is this mega mega millionaire complaining about his finances. How many other small market owners are constantly threatening their communities with moving the franchise.

If you buy a home for $100,000 and 10 years later it is worth $700,000, this does not mean you have $700,000 to spend. You would have to sell the house 1st to realize this profit.

Even if he walks away with $300 to $400 million after taxes, that's still a far cry from his initial investment. He should spend more instead of trying all he can to make an annual profit.
Mike formerly from Florida Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 he needs to sh-- or get off the pot. Ralph will be dead before he gets to see any of his profit. You would think he would want to win a Super Bowl and go "all out" to get there before he croaks. It just goes to show you he suffers from a mental illness called "cheap beyond words can describe." I mentioned this once before, I met someone who is a very close friend of an ex-Bills star. This Bills player told him that the players from his era can't stand Ralph because he is so cheap and will not do what it takes to win. They won't publicly say it but the sentiment is there.

If Ralph sells the team, then the buyer will move it out of Buffalo because he won't be able to cover the debt service AND buy all of these players you want. then you won;t have to B word about Ralph being a cheapskate anymore.

I understand your point. I wish he would spend more also, however Wilson will NOT sell this team. He will die first.
