Wade Phillips article

Did the writer miss any?

1 thing we all know: TO is going to make a mockery of him and ruin his chance at coaching a successful team!

fyi ... can't wait till bills play the NFC east next year. should be relatively easy w/ skins rebuilding, cowboys adjusting to new coach, giants adjusting to life without tiki and coughlin all but gone too and eagles with their own set of problems too.

But it was the 1999 season when he made arguably his toughest decision with a QB: He benched Bills starter Doug Flutie for Rob Johnson before the start of the playoffs. Flutie was 10-5 as a starter that season, and the move nearly paid big dividends.

Nearly paid big dividends?????? What does that even mean? Does that mean the Bills nearly defeated the Cowboys in superbowl 27? Or Willis nearly rushed for 5,000 yards this year? How does starting a player who ended up being one of the biggest disappointments in Bills history even come close to qualifying as "nearly paying big dividends"???

I'll grant you the Bills should win the Giants game. Their combination of offensive line problems, inconsistent QB play, and their brand new offensive coordinator spells doom for that particular team. As long as the Bills are able to pick up the blitz, we should be able to win the mental chess match against the Skins' defensive coordinator as well.

But the Eagles and Cowboys will be tougher nuts to crack. Both were playoff teams this past year. Yes the Cowboys are in transition, but Wade Phillips is a fine coach who will ensure the Cowboys put together a solid defensive effort. And while Tony Romo may not be the world's best field goal placeholder, he's still a good quarterback.

I had the same reaction. It's just a spin....we know Wade made the worst decisions in the history of mankind before and after that game, but the Dallas supporters are trying to talk it up as a positive.

The only way that decision came close to paying *any* dividends was that it took a fluke play to beat the Bills that day.

I think that the (almost) win against the Titans was what they had in mind by saying it "almost paid big dividends." To his credit, Rob Johnson did play quite well in the second half of that playoff game; and was instrumental in the Bills taking the lead with just 16 seconds left.

That last kickoff should have been a squib kick.
