The Avenger Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 a guy on my hockey team is defending next week. I wanted to pick up a nice smart ass gift. Any suggestions? What's his field?
stuckincincy Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 What's his field? If it's in Education, I'll have additional comments. As well as Public Policy, Sports, Communications, and the like. Or if it came from a mail-order joint like the University of Phoenix, et al.
Beerball Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 What's his field? You're thinking baseball, hockey doesn't have fielders. I must admit that I'm unaware of this PhD gift giving thingie. Is it common practice?
smokinandjokin Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 Spencer's Gifts always has some good stuff. Perhaps if this person will be employed in a position that requires they give presentations, the X-rated Laser Pointer would be a good buy. It's a typical laser pointer that comes equipped with caps that will project some interesting messages...
SDS Posted February 9, 2007 Author Posted February 9, 2007 it is either in molecular biology or biochemistry - I don't remember. He will be working for the USDA.
SDS Posted February 9, 2007 Author Posted February 9, 2007 barring something tasteful and funny - I'll need to go to the other extreme and get him the raunchiest, most disgusting porn mag I can find.
stuckincincy Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 it is either in molecular biology or biochemistry - I don't remember. He will be working for the USDA. Buy him some antiseptic hand wipes, a bottle of A-200 brand head lice curative, and a $4 nasal saline spray bottle?
The Avenger Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 You're in luck - my brother is a biochemist and this bizarro site might have something truly unique - something only a true molecular biologist or biochemist would appreciate.... Giant Microbes Nothing says congrats like I giant stuffed ebola virus..... (actually, if its the USDA I'd recommend Mad Cow and/or E.Coli)
BillsFanNC Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 I'm a molecular biologist (not a PhD though) and have received gifts in the past from Infectious Awareables. I have the Avian flu necktie and the gonorrhea boxers.

TheMadCap Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 it is either in molecular biology or biochemistry - I don't remember. He will be working for the USDA. A general Chemistry or Biology Lab manual would be fairly appropriate, seeing how 95% of the PhDs I've met outside academia couldn't prep mobile phase of 100% dH2O...

I used to get all of my buddies a year subscription to PlayGirl for house warmings, graduations, etc...Good times.

Free? - I'm there! I've been itchin' for a good sit down discussion of alveolar macrophages - you so seldom get the opportunity to hang out and shoot the breeze on this over a few beers. What a pefect way to come down from Valentine's Day.
