Marvs take on the running backs

Needing a coffee and some perspective on the Great Running Back Debate, I was fortunate to find Marv Levy in the press box. The Bills' Pro Football Hall of Fame coach masterfully juggled Thurman Thomas and Kenneth Davis.

"You usually have a controversy going for one of two reasons," Levy said as I sipped. "One, you don't have anybody that's any good and you're looking for him; two, you have two or more who are really good and they're fighting it out. I prefer the second problem."

Levy said that if the Bills' new coaching staff is truly committed to running the ball — Saturday night, coordinator Tom Clements called five more runs than passes — Henry and McGahee will find contentment. It's a matter of logic.

"You need more than one running back, you all know that," Levy said. "Thurman never resented (Davis). They got along great and Thurman appreciated the rest he got. If the Bills have a good running attack going, it's not going to be a problem here because they're both going to get the work. They're going to get plenty of carries and it will work itself out without all this agonizing."

In other words, the McGahee-Henry firestorm has merely served to overshadow the more important issue: Buffalo's starting line.

Who kidnapped it?

Must've been the media.

Its true much time has been spent talking the issue of the running backs when the most important one to Bills success this season is a improved offensive line

Unfortunately, many of us have wanted an improved offensive line, above and beyond all else, this offseason. I'm a little perturbed we couldn't have done more, but we'll have to see if they are really any better this year.
