molson_golden2002 Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 While it is true that Arab armies have shown a high degree of incompetence in the past, it does not follow that that always has to be the case. In the recent Israel-Hizbollah war, a major factor was Hizbollah's use of anti-tank weapons. Not only did they possess them, but they proved that they knew how to use them very effectively as well. It is more than likely that they received some sort of training from Iran. While it is certainly possible that Iran may not know how to use the latest Russian anti-ship missiles effectively, it would be a very stupid commander indeed that would rely on that assumption. Surely, it would be far more prudent to assume the worst case scenario, that Iran not only possesses these missiles but also knows how to use them, and plan for that. Good point about the Israeli defeat. I'm sure the Iranians are getting lots of Chinese and Russian technical help. The people who think we are simply fighting savages are displaying the same ignorance and arrogence that led us into Iraq.

Good name for this lot HAN YOUNIS, Gaza Strip — Thousands of Palestinians throughout Gaza and the West Bank turned out Tuesday to protest the deaths of three children in a drive-by shooting, and Hamas gunmen — blamed by many for the killings — opened fire on demonstrators from the rival Fatah movement. The killings of the three boys — ages 3, 6 and 9 — whose car was riddled with bullets as they rode to school in Gaza City, sparked widespread rage, grief and soul-searching in the Palestinian areas. Children stayed home from school and stores were closed to protest the violence. While Gaza has been plagued by months of infighting, the brutality of Monday's shooting — in an area crowded with families and schoolchildren — was especially shocking and raised fears of more factional violence. Women led many of Tuesday's protests, demanding safety for their children. Many protesters carried posters with life-size photos of the dead boys' bloodied faces, as well as other victims of Palestinian infighting.
Oneonta Buffalo Fan Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 I wouldn't be surprised if Iran is behind this. They hate us.
X. Benedict Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 There was an interesting article by Fareed Zakaria this week that suggests that the greater conflict may not shape up to be Islam vs. the West but Islam vs. Islam. It's worth a look: http://www.fareedzakaria.com/articles/articles.html
