Possible Draft Scenarios

Lynch would be a good pick, but I think that Pittman will be around in the 2nd round when we get back "on the clock". If we trade Willis, we should get atleast a second for him(hopefully). We could probably trade him to one of 3 teams. Either the Texans, Browns, or Packers. That would give us an extra pick to address the other needs that we have as well as get a RB too. That way we could take Blaylock from Texas at #12 to sure up an OG for the next 5-7 years because he is that good.

With the pick we get for trading McGahee, pick Pittman early in the 2nd round. With our second 2nd round pick we could go after a LB or a DT. I think we should go LB and pick up one of these guys Rufus Alexander-Oklahoma, Earl Everett-Florida, Brandon Siler-Florida, or Buster Davis-Florida St. Alexander would be my choice, personally.

After the second round we could pick up help for our DL. Carriker from Nebraska should be around if we look for a DE and maybe Harrell from Tennessee at DT will still probably be on the board in the 3rd round. I'd go after Carriker. I'm not sold on Denney playing opposite of Schoebel at all. I don't think that McCargo has even been given a chance as of yet, so I don't want to pick another DT relatively early in the draft.

4th round we either go after a CB or WR. Maybe DeAndre Jackson from Iowa St. or Eric Wright from UNLV. If WR, then maybe a Jarret Hicks from Texas Tech or Ryne Robinson from Miami of Ohio or maybe even Ryan Moore from "the U" could all be around. This is where it starts to be a toss-up for myself. I would probably get a CB. Jackson probably.

From here out we could look at DT, possibly another OL prospect, hope to find our own version of Colston @ WR. All these thoughts are not even considering what we do in the FA market beforehand. So depending on that, all of this would be subject to change anyway. What do you guys think?

First off, solve the O-line woes with free agency! Steinbach or Dielman would look good to me, although the fall-back guy might be Coleman. Then give J.P. Losman weapons to make this offense complete! Ted Ginn, Jr. at 12 and then a pass catching threat at TE, even if you must move up to nab them! Olson or Miller would round out a potentially potent unit that could spread out and set up the Patriots, Jets, and Dolphins with match-up problems for years to come!! Throw in Parrish and possibly Reed, and the attack is in place. Tweek the defense in free agency and later in the draft, and the playoff talk could be meaningful.

Ted Ginn is a soft wuss.

Can run fast but his patterns are poor.

He would be a lock for the Bills if TD were still around.

Not likely in the new regime.

Uhhh it was TD who traded that soft wuss and it was the "new regime" who gave him $10million to come back and round off routes and duck out of contact.

But aside from being competely backwards and nonsensical that was a great post. ;)

i think price had a pretty good year, made a lot of tight catches

He also gave up some tight interceptions.

And I've never heard the Ginn/Parrish comparison, which I think is spurious at best. Ginn's a bigger downfield threat while Parrish is more likely to get teh ball in the short zones.

I was referring to the midgets Roscoe Parrish and Troy Edwards that TD wasted top picks on- and fits the mold with Ginn.

sorry to disappoint.

post. :bag:

His results and the manner he was used last year (as indicated by his ypc) do not indicate what you say is correct that he is a wuss.

He collected 49 passes as our #2 WR last year which of course no where near his 90+ catches he got in his best year teaming with Moulds, but it is just this stat which folks seem to expect is the norm for PP and a #2 WR which seems to be why at least some folks are disappointed in his performance.

Actually collecting almost 50 catches is not horredous for a WR or a #2 in this league. Folks correctly wish he had done better, but simply folks being disappointed because their hopes or expectations were higher than the norm does not mean a player is bad or was a wuss.

In fact, what seems to be the case from my observations of his play, the Bills O and his stats is that rather than being used for his speed as he was in his best year, Fairchild instead used him as a possession WR.

Rather than being a wuss, PP actually performed off the type cast by being a player who ran short routes and over the middle where generally wusses fear to tread. As best as I can remember and see from the stats, PP had only one fumble this year and did not exhibit any indication of having a droppsie problem similar to one Josh Reed had a few years ago, Perhaps if he had any signs of the droppsies before a catch or an inordinate number of fumbles after the catch this might indicate some sense of him being a wuss but I see no substantiation.

Your argument seems to be he rounded off patterns. Outside of him and JP best of all and members of the team, who knows for sure what pattern was called on a particular play and claiming that he rounds off patterns is not something which can really be observed for sure by an outside observer. What indicators there are is that he made almost 50 catches and he was a steady target of JPs on short possession routes. Again there are no indicators that JP or the team thought this was a problem so are there any objective indicators of this.

I could see a complaint that Fairchild did not use him in the way he apparently could be used by sending him on more deep routes, or someone could TRY to make the case that the fault was PPs for not breaking tackles for RAC after the catch.

However, even this contention should be somewhat comfirmable by the accuser naming specific games and plays where this performance by PP can be seen and I do not think this exists.

The Bills would obviously profit from a #2 who brought in 75 catches and helped stretch the field. Yet, it seems more likely that this could be achieved by using PP differently than paying more than an unreasonable amount for an FA or a speculative draft choice which might be better spent on the OL or DL.

We don't need to give JP more weapons. We do not need a dominating Offence, What we have already is enough to win games, what we need is a dominating Defence, which is what it looks like Marv wants too. Look at Baltimore, and Chicago. Those are teams with good, to horrible offences, and their defence is what makes them playoff teams.

Keep building the defence while slowly improving the offence, it was enough to keep us in and win some games last year, get a defence that can hold teams and stop the run and this team is in the playoffs

what your stats dont tell is exactly what simon said. how worthless price rounds off his patterns and doesnt run crisp routes. they also wont tell you that he sits there and waits for the ball to come to him, instead of going to get it. Stats wont tell you that he cost JP 2-3 INT's easily this year by not fighting for the ball, and just slacking off.

people remember that game winning TD catch against houston. but its the little things in the above paragraph that make a decent WR good, and worthless price doesnt do them.

Good point. Improving DL, LB, and OL in that order of importance are primary needs.

I wouldn't take Price #12 either . If Ginn goes undrafted and is a free agent for a relatively small contract like Peerless I'd sign him up. I think #12 would be a little high for Blalock, but I think once you see this market we will probably be better off with Blalock than Steinbach who would otherwise be my top choice. What if we got both? How's that for an upgrade over Gandy & Preston?

100% correct...

I'm confused about where this is coming from...Ginn is 20 yrs old and 6-0-180...Marvin Harrison is 6-0-185...Since when did Ted Ginn become a smurf?

All I know is everytime I saw the Kid he was running past Defenders and making big Plays at WR and KR...Like I said a couple days ago, it can easily be argued that Ginn was the most explosive Player in College Football over the past 2 Seasons combined...And He's not small...He's just not huge...

I have no idea what kind of Pro Ginn will be, but he's got a hell of a skill set for some NFL Team to develop...That I'm certain of...And in the meantime I'm pretty sure He will be an impact Return Specialist...

I think rthe language which makes your argument least compelling is that you summarize Price as being "worthless" Certainly, its not unreasonable for a big time Bills rooter to describe him as inadequate or to describe his play as not achieving a reasonable expectation for a #2. I can see someone disagreeing about whether he was adequate or inadequate, or about whether his play was sufficient for a number 2 WR.

However, the 49 catches he produced, working as a possession WR which is certainly not the way he has been used to greatest impact before, and him showing work with a minimum of fumbles, a couple of nice memorable plays like the nice footwork on the TD in Houston you mentioned but he was also impressive on a TD run where he broke a tackle for a TD against MN.

Your arguments would be much more credible if they reflected the truth that Peerless giveth this season but Peerless also taketh away. He gave gave the first game against the Jets a good start catching about a 20 yarder, but disappeared in that game. He seemed to me to be our best receiver in the second NE game, but not only was the entire O ineffective that game but PP drew a penalty on a critical play. He had his best game with about 7 catches against TN but this was in a losing cause as well. In addition to the good games with the TDs, the so-so games like the losses to TN and NE, he simply disappeared in several games either getting a couple of catches or merely producing a handful of yards.

Is this important because PP's erratic performance is justifiable? No! its important because he had some good moments this season and actually I think the over declaration of simply calling him worthless obscures what appears to me to be the more notable potential problem, which is what type of O game is Fairchild calling,

By exaggerating and painting a broadbrush by calling him worthless, i think many folks are simply letting Fairchild off the hook for the way he called games and used Price. I think he turned out to be too clever by half often as he tried to cross up Ds by using Peerless in a different way (possession rather than speed) this deception can work once or twice, but even if you consider limited, I think there is a serious question whether Fairchild went with the best part of his game.

The thing I would hate to see folks rejoice if Peerless is let go (with the resulting cap penalty which must be added to the salary of his replacement to judge his actual costs) but then see his replacement also used ineffectively by Fairchild if no one questions the way he used what he had on O this year.

I think the hyoerventilating over PP distracts from exploration of how to really improve this team.
