aeb16428 Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 It is being reported that James Lofton is set to become the Raiders new head coach. Contract is still being finalized.
jester43 Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 whoa...really? good for him if it's true! but man...what a mess...
MartyBall4Buffalo Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 Woah ok I guess I was wrong. Good for James. I hope it works out, but man is that one cluster !@#$ to clean up.
Acantha Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 My first instinct was I'm glad he's getting his shot. It was quickly followed by....damn. Hopefully this doesn't ruin his chances in the future.
Oneonta Buffalo Fan Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 It is being reported that James Lofton is set to become the Raiders new head coach. Contract is still being finalized. Nice to see Buffalo players are getting jobs. BUT THE RAIDERS ARE A MESS! I'm worried how well he will do.
Buftex Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 I am kind of surprised Haslett wasn't given some consideration for this job...much as I don't like him as a Bills potential coach, I think he would do well in Oakland... I hope Lofton isn't in over his head, but you never know. Maybe Davis is thinking he has to bring in someone who can light a fire under the ass of what should be a pretty good receiving corp. Someone said, and I can't remember who, Oakland is the one job in the NFL that first time coaches might be better off "just saying no" to. Godspeed James!
Whitner20 Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 wow, that was totally out of left field. Good for him. I'm glad Lofton finally got a chance and i hope he does well. He has a real big mess but if he somehow fixes their problems, he might be called the next genius coach. But.... the downside is like someone said, he might never get another chance if he has major stuggles. But i think he'll be just fine.
marauderswr80 Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 Better have the staff of the century to turn that wrecked ship around.
Beerball Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 Apparently Lofton has backed off of statements that his hiring was iminent. Also reported today that Denny Green turned down an interview request in Oakland. Part of me hopes Lofton gets his shot, and another part hopes that he stays as far away from that mess as possible.
Mark Vader Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 This does not come as big a surprise. Lofton did interview for this same position last year, just did not get hired. Good for him if he does, but man, what a way to start your head coaching career.
BoondckCL Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 My first instinct was I'm glad he's getting his shot. It was quickly followed by....damn. Hopefully this doesn't ruin his chances in the future. Art Shell got a lot of time to fix that team. It is all his fault.
sullim4 Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 Looks like Lofton removed himself from consideration: In a related matter, San Diego Chargers wide receivers coach and Hall of Fame member James Lofton, who met earlier this week with Oakland officials, withdrew his name from consideration for the job. Who in their right mind would take this job?
JinVA Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 Looks like Lofton removed himself from consideration:Who in their right mind would take this job? Art Shell...................Twice!
